Aftab inspired by Salman, Ajay and Surya?

One glance at Aftab Shivdasani's 'mooch' in his upcoming release BIN BULAYE BARAATI and not just it looks suspiciously similar to the kind of look that actor Surya carried in Tamil flick SINGHAM (which has now been remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgn), it also continues the trend as set by some of the recent filmy cops seen on screen.

"As a tough no-nonsense cop, Surya carried a dense moustache that went all the way down till the chin in SINGHAM. Now Aftab too is bearing a similar look though it is for a much softer role in a comedy," says an insider who specializes in designing looks for actors, "Even in Bollywood, this trend is catching up."

He has a point here. Last year Salman Khan tried something razor thin in DABANGG, Abhishek Bachchan went with a regular one for DUM MAARO DUM and now Aamir Khan is going conventional as well for Reema Kagti's yet untitled suspense drama. Not to forget Ajay Devgn who has grown a 'mooch' for SINGHAM. Incidentally each of these actors are playing a cop in the respective films.

When contacted, Aftab Shivdasani doesn't deny that his look is inspired. However he says that his reference point wasn't any of the current generation actors but veteran actor Anil Kapoor.

"The trend was started by Anil Kapoor in 80s and I don't remember that barring LAMHE and a sequence or two in JHOOT BOLE KAUWA KAATE, whether he has ever shaved off his moustache," he smiles, "He has also played a cop in countless flicks during last three decades and the 'mooch' always looked good on him. I was obviously inspired from there."

He adds that different looks is in and he also couldn't resist the temptation, especially so after carrying a chocolate boy look in most of his 30 odd releases so far.

"In last 12 years that I have been playing a lead, this is the first time I am sporting a moustache for a film," reveals Aftab, "I wanted to do something that goes with my character of a fake cop in the film and hence decided to don a different look. I guess it works perfectly fine."
