Jimmy's DHARTI similar to RAAJNEETI?

There is such a dearth of original ideas when it comes to cinema that whenever a new film is announced, there are instant comparisons being made with some other film that has already been released. Now that comparison could be with an Indian or an international film but it always exists. Same holds true for Jimmy Sheirgill's DHARTI as well where one suspected similarities with RAAJNEETI. Reason being that both films have their base in grassroots politics in the interiors of the country.

'Now that's something which is totally news to me. I am amused how imaginations can really run wild for some out there', says Jimmy who is not just seen as a central protagonist in DHARTI but is also the co-producer of the film, 'DHARTI has nothing whatsoever to do with RAAJNEETI. In fact it is based on politics in Punjab, something which is yet to be explored.'

Jimmy also feels that while RAAJNEETI had its roots in central India, DHARTI looks in a different direction when it comes to its overall setting.

'In fact the dynamics and demographics of politics in Punjab is very different from what you see in the rest of the country. Also, this isn't something that has ever been explored in any film before. DHARTI film is as original as it gets. Comparing it with any other film would be totally unwarranted', says Jimmy.

He also claims that during the making of the film, he along with director Navaniat Singh had taken a conscious approach to keep DHARTI different from anything else that had been seen on the big screen before.

'The situations are totally different here and the kind that have been quite smartly dealt with', Jimmy says in a confident tone, 'Also, we wanted to keep things real and possible. There isn't anything fake, over the top or unbelievable that you would see in DHARTI, whether it's the plot movement or the characterisation.'

We would know Jimmy when the film releases on 22nd April 2011.
