Sudhir Mishra: Huge releases have ended the jubilees!

For a long long time in Bollywood (till the multiplexes arrived) the parameter for the success of a film was Platinum, Golden or even Silver jubilee. Later on, it became 100 days and finally 50-day too was considered as a significant success. But then it changed dramatically and all boiled down to a huge initial weekend and a reasonably good second weekend.

However as the things stand today, at a single multiplex 28-30 shows on many screens daily has become the order of the day and a huge initial is all that it takes for a reasonably budgeted (say 20-25 crore) film to be declared a hit and vice-versa!

To understand the phenomenon and the shift from the now redundant attrition theory we decided to get the views of the renowned filmmaker Sudhir Mishra. And he says, "Previously there used to be a limited number of prints. But now due to piracy threat makers go in for a huge number of prints. It is for this reason that films do not get to a jubilee mark. "He went on to add, "Taking the case of my own YEH SAALI ZINDAGI, we released it with 532 prints!"

Well, we couldn't agree more Sudhir ji and the day is not far when just the first weekend itself will decide the fate of a film!
