Abhinay Deo: GAME is not retro at all

Promos of GAME have pretty much established that some innovative shot taking has been attempted by first time director Abhinay Deo. Also, one can sense that there has also been a conscious effort on the part of makers to make it the coolest flick of the early summer.

'Well yes, that has been an attempt,' says Abhinay who comes from the school of new age film making, 'Starting right from the characterisation till the finer details of every shot to the wardrobe and how everything on a frame is presented, the cool quotient did play in my mind constantly. I truly believe that audiences today are very ready for such films and they expect their characters to be cool apart from being macho.'

Since the film is a whodunit, many have questioned Abhinay if with GAME, he has attempted fusing Bollywood retro in the film's narrative.

'No, GAME is not retro at all', immediately responds Abhinay, 'I did refer to older cinema like TEESRI MANZIL but that was mainly to understand the genre. By no means was I taking forward the same format and storytelling. Also, another interesting aspect about GAME is that we are not even aping any Hollywood film to be like them. That would have alienated the Indian audience. All said and done, GAME is a very stylish contemporary thriller and its heart is completely Indian.'

Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Kangna Ranaut, Sarah Jane Dias, Jimmy Sheirgill, Gauhar Khan, Shahana Goswami, Boman Irani and Anupam Kher as the other key players, GAME is a Farhan Akhtar & Ritesh Sidhwani production and releases all over on 1st April
