ROWDY RATHORE - Bhansali's image changing exercise

Sanjay Leela Bhansali continues to be surprised about the perception factor surrounding him. While he insists that in real life he is as chilled out as many out there, he wonders what makes the world around him claim that he is a difficult person to deal with.

Smiles Bhansali, "It is surprising that people have this image of me to be this very intense and tantrum throwing director. The thing is that I have never ever been like that. Even when I was making BLACK, a real serious film, I was having a lot of fun on the sets and with my actors. However an image has been built around me due to the kind of work that I do and feel that I am a very intense person 24X7."

Bhansali admits that this is one of the major reasons for him to be making ROWDY RATHORE and SHIRIN FARHAD KI NIKAL PADI - two films that have ended up surprising a lot out there.

"Due to preconceived notions not many associate me with films that I am doing now but then hey, this too is one side of me," he chirps, "It is surprising that people judge me as a person by my work. As a matter of fact I like commercial cinema a lot and want to contribute to that."

In that case one wonders what made him back a film like MY FRIEND PINTO. After all, it was neither a film belonging to his zone nor was it an out and out commercial affair.

"To be very honest, when Raghav (film's director) narrated the film to me, I was smiling throughout. I found his screenplay to be really choreographed with a lot of funny moments. I liked it all a lot as it touched my heart. When a story narration does something like that to you, you want to stand by the director and support them. I thought it would be a good idea to make this film," defends Bhansali.

Though it's a different matter that audience didn't think as much, it is nonetheless good to see Bhansali trying out different genres. Now that's what makes ROWDY RATHORE and SHIRIN FARHAD KI NIKAL PADI all the more awaited.
