Shahrukh to open and Suriya to close IFFI, Goa

The 42 International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa, (November 23-December 3, 2011) will be opened by Bollywood's badshah Shah Rukh Khan and closed by Kollywood's shining star Suriya, making it truly representational of the country's cinema. The festival's opening and closing ceremonies will be held at the Ravindra Bhavan Auditorium at Madgaon this year that can seat 2000 spectators.

The new director of IFFI Shankar Mohan promises that the festival will be different and much more exciting this year than the earlier years. It is going to be more people friendly and technologically updated with 3D screenings happening for the first time in its history. Around 65 countries will be participating in the festival that includes a retrospective of K Balachandar and a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore. The Lifetime Achievement Award has been revived and will be given away to the noted French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier. The festival opens with the Portuguese film THE CONSUL OF BORDEAUX by Joao Correa, and Francisco Manso.

The Indian Panorama of 23 films will open with the Malayalam film URUMI by Santosh Sivan, starring Prithviraj, Prabhu Deva, Genelia D'Souza,, Vidya Balan and US actor Alexx O'Nell. The 3-D line-up includes CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS by Werner HERZOG and PINA by Wim WENDERS.
