From Katrina to Kareena, Hamsika is making waves

Kareena Kapoor's 'Chammak Challo' is making waves and while the song is known most for Akon coming behind the mike, one also wonders who's the female singer accompanying him. Well, she is Hamsika Iyer, a popular jingle singer in the world of advertisements.

Says a source, "Singing has been on Hamsika's mind since childhood. She received her initial training in music from her father-Shri. S Balachander, a Carnatic Musician and musicologist based in Mumbai. She is a regular voice with ad world jingles, Marathi tele-serials and has sung songs in Tamil and Hindi movies. In fact she has been the voice of Katrina in the popular jingle 'Rasiya' of 'Slice Aamsutra'."

Not many know though she isn't new to the world of playback singing. Years ago, she had got her big break in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's EKLAVYA (2007) where she had sung 'Chanda Re' (popularly known as 'The Moon Song'). The song was a chart buster and had turned out to be popular amongst critics as well as audience. Some of other notable numbers have been 'Ishq Barse' (RAAJNEETI) and 'Jhoola Jhool' (STANLEY KA DABBA).

On asked about her experience of singing alongside Akon, Hamsika said, "It's a chance of a lifetime and I couldn't have asked for a better song from Vishal-Shekhar. 'Chammak Challo' has become popular because it is a very catchy and stylish dance number. When something sounds good, people are bound to like it instantly. Audience connecred with 'Chammak Challo' and I thank Vishal-Shekhar for trusting me with this one."
