Subhash Ghai feels cheated by Maharashtra government

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who was directed by the Supreme Court to return 21 acres of land allocated to him by the Maharashtra government for his film institution, said he has been 'cheated' over the issue.

"I feel cheated by the Maharashtra government," Ghai told media on Friday.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered him to return 21 acres of land allocated to him for his film institution in Goregaon.

The apex court directed Ghai to return the 21 acres of land to the Maharashtra government. The land was allotted to the senior filmmaker by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh during his tenure in 2000.

The Bombay High Court in February asked Ghai to hand over the land allocated to him for his film academy Whistling Woods. The Bombay High Court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that was filed by Rajendra Sontakke and four other agriculturists from Latur and Osmanabad districts in connection to the case.

The court directed him to return 14.5 acre acres of open land that was allotted to him. It asked him to return the remaining 5.5 acres of land on which the institute has been built by July 31, 2014. Ghai later appealed to the Supreme Court against the ruling given by the Bombay High Court.
