Nikhil Dwivedi: I have reservations doing sex scenes

Actor Nikhil Dwivedi may have stepped in Bollywood with MY NAME IS ANTHONY GONSALVES, however he was supposed to make his debut in a Vikram Bhatt film. But due to some reasons the project couldn't take off. So when Vikram Bhatt came to him with HATE STORY he was more than delighted to accept the film.

Nikhil reveals, ''Not many people know that I was supposed to start my career with Vikram Bhatt. I was supposed to get my first break in his film. Unfortunately it couldn't materialize. But Vikram has always been a silent supporter and very encouraging towards my work. Perhaps, one of the very few people who believed in me when no one else did. So when Vikram offered me this role I just blindly accepted it.''

Ask Nikhil why it took so long to collaborate with his mentor/guide and he says, ''We had film offers earlier but that also couldn't work out. I think things happen at the right time when they have to happen and I believe HATE STORY is the right film.''

Interestingly, Nikhil was offered Gulshan's role in the film but the actor refused to accept as it required him to do heavy intimate scenes. And Nikhil has his inhibitions doing steamy/bold scenes on-screen.

Says Nikhil, ''I was offered Gulshan's role initially but I did not take it up as it had lot of intimate scenes. I have certain reservations about doing sex scenes on-screen. As an actor I am slightly shy to be able to play it convincingly. So that's the reason I refused that part.' And Nikhil won't do intimate scenes till the time he overcomes his shyness. ''Well till the time I am able to overcome that shyness my answer would be no to bold scenes. Because anything an actor does he should be extremely convinced of what he is doing. If a day comes when I feel that I can do it convincingly, I am not shy anymore and if I am able overcome that reservation then, perhaps, yes I will do,'' says Nikhil in a matter of fact tone.

Despite being a woman-centric film, Nikhil is quite happy with his role in HATE STORY. Nikhil says, ''HATE STORY is a woman-oriented film and so was MOTHER INDIA, PAKEEZAH, MILLI, GUDDI, RAZIA SULTAN, etc. So are we suggesting that actors like Rajendra Kumar, Sunil Dutt, RajKumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra should not have done of those films?...We all talk about empowerment of women, we all want women to be showcased but if all the male actors start to refuse films which are women-centric then how will those films be made. Having said that, my part is very well etched out in the film. I have tried to do maximum justice that I could.''

Also starring Paoli Dam and Gulshan Deviah, HATE STORY is directed by Vivek Agnihotri and releases in Cinema on 20th April 2012.
