Ayushmann Khurrana: Vicky is very much me

VICKY DONOR is all set to arrive this weekend and its lead actor Ayushmann Khurrana is the first to admit that playing a central protagonist wasn't a small responsibility for him. Though he has enjoyed a good stint on television, he confesses that movies are an altogether different ballgame. This is where director Shoojit Sircar came in handy as he allowed Ayushmann to do his own thing instead of trying to hold him by hand in every other scene.

"Shoojit ne mujhe bilkul khulla chod diya tha," laughs Ayushmann, "He never gave me any specific instructions on the sets. It was upon me to actually go ahead and shift gears; unlearn a lot of things. See, anchoring is a different ballgame altogether because there you have to talk to the camera. Here in VICKY DONOR I had to actually ignore the camera. Since I have done theatre as well as radio in the past, the combination worked really well. Then I also did workshops in Delhi that allowed me to open up."

Ayushmann reveals one very important lesson that he learnt during this workshop. "I was told that acting karte waqt dimaag nahi lagaana chahiye," he remembers, "Thankfully the character of Vicky is also very much me. I come from North and while playing Vicky, I kept four of my friends in mind. I also brought in some of my own traits from my growing up years in Chandigarh. Also, not many know that I can also read and write in Punjabi. This is the reason why you would see me speaking a lot of Punjabi."

We for sure would look forward to that once the film hits the screen on 20th April.
