Go Govinda Go: Sonakshi as first female to break Dahi Handi

One does not know whether the 'Go Govinda' song from OH MY GOD! has taken inspiration from the all-female Govinda tolis that have become an integral part of the landscape of Mumbai around the time of Krishna Janamashtmi, but the song 'Go Govinda Go' has indeed become a landmark in the history of Indian cinema.

It has become a landmark as it is after more than a decade and a half when Prabhu Dheva had serenaded Madhuri Dixit in PUKAAR in 'Kay Sera Sera' song, that he has been paired opposite Sonakshi Sinha for this item song. Sonakshi Sinha, as per the grapevine in the industry, after success of ROWDY RATHORE is being considered as a lucky mascot by Akshay Kumar and therefore this song was created for her as an item number in OH MY GOD and it has hit bulls' eye.

The major USP of the song lies in the fact that it is for the first time in all probability in the history of Hindi cinema that a matki would be broken by a female actor, and the actress is none other than Sonakshi Sinha. Hitherto this honour in the world of Hindi cinema was a male pre-requisite, but Sonakshi Sinha would change the paradigm and would inspire more female actors to give a shot to this popular cultural street furniture of landscape of Mumbai.

Intelligently enough the toil that Sonakshi Sinha ascends is also an all-female toil and for the Hindi cinema it is a monumental step forward as it is a definite sign of woman empowerment in the sense that the cinematic fraternity has started thinking about giving opportunity to the female stars to be a part of the processes that conventionally are considered a male requiem.

As Janmashtmi approaches, 'Go Govinda Go' indeed is going to blare from nearly all the mandals in Mumbai and around and it should be a source of inspiration for more all-female Govinda tolis to have a shot at the matki and claim the price money as the booty. Who Knows, Sonakshi Sinha could this year be one of the chief guests in Mumbai to celebrate.

Janmashtmi, and it would be a fitting finale if an all-woman toli breaks the Handi and there would not be a better promotion for Go Govinda Go, which already has gone viral.
