Sabbir Khan: KAMBAKKHT ISHQ is past, HEROPANTI is present

It is a known fact that for his debut film HEROPANTI, Tiger Shroff is in the process of converting his unique personality into a serious actor with some intense training workshops. While Sabbir Khan is working with the actor on a daily basis to ensure that he hits the right notes, one wonders how is the second time director approaching this film. After all, he has to justify the confidence and trust shown in him by Tiger and his family who have probably turned down the who's who from the industry.

"To begin with, like any other person from the creative fraternity, I am forever learning and unlearning a lot of things, confesses Sabbir, "When I made KAMBAKKHT ISHQ, I was like this kid in a candy shop. It was Sajid Nadiadwala and Akshay Kumar who goaded me to become a director and I took that responsibility and tried doing a film that fitted into the required framework. I went with the flow and had a blast."

He continues, "I guess I am destiny's child, otherwise how many directors get an opportunity to have two of the hottest stars in their very first film. And here I was, a debutant director, who shot almost his entire film in Hollywood and with cameos from top Hollywood stars that I idolized. However, it was past and Tiger's film is present."

It did require some thought process to set in for Sabbir as far as Tiger's launch is concerned.

"The first step was to actually take a step back and bear in mind that as a filmmaker I have a larger role in society than to just entertain. Of course no matter what story I decide to tell, it would primarily be narrated with entertainment as a key. So I travelled and read a lot and then went back to my film making influences. After a lot of soul searching and brain storming, I came upon a story that was extremely relevant. It was a story that both Sajid and I were extremely excited about which led to its development and scripting."
