RGV's prediction about EEGA to come true; the film set to touch 100 crore mark

When Ram Gopal Verma says that it would be the first Telugu film to cross 100 crore mark, the world of cinema making needs to sit up and take notice. Indeed, EEGA, the film which has been made in Telugu at the cost of Rs, 30 crore has emerged as one of the biggest hits in the recent times and has paved the way for filmmakers to think out of the box and use animation and graphics to start making films which Hollywood has developed as one of the biggest verticals. Directed by S.S. Rajmouli, EEGA is going to be made in Hindi as well with the title MAKHI, which again would be directed by Rajmouli.

It is the humble housefly who has caught the imagination of the fans and probably the reason why it has become such a big hit is owing to the fact that the midget vanquishes the mighty, here the midget is EEGA the housefly who psyches the villain to such an extent that he meets with an accident and passes away. EEGA also underlines the convergence of the phylum of homo-sapiens and the insects to mesmerize the audience. EEGA underlines the premise that size does not matter at all, if one wants to set out to settle an issue, as they say an ant if it decides can decimate an elephant.

EEGA is the story of rebirth, but with a difference and it is perhaps this difference which made it such a huge hit. The hero reborn as an EEGA or the housefly challenges the might of the villain and decimates him. Imagine the buzz of a housefly when it wants to irritate you and leaves you at your wits end to get rid of it. This seems to be the guiding spirit in building up the character of EEGA.

It is also for the first time in long-long time, especially for Telugu cinema in particular and Hindi cinema in general, that in EEGA there is a very strong background music. For that matter the songs are not sung by the lead protagonists but they emerge from the background to make it realistic, perhaps.

EEGA has opened up the possibility of making films more interesting by interspersing the characters in the form of houseflies, a mosquito, etc., whose antics enthrall the children in particular and would make the film viewing a family affair once again. Besides, it also gives the producer and the director a tool to possibly contain the star system and could serve a note of caution to the actors as well not to throw tantrums that are not required. EEGA could be the GAME-CHANGER for the world of entertainment in India for sure.

EEGA is a strong rejoinder to the world of cinema from India and is an answer to films like A BUG's LIFE and BEE MOVIE. It has been released simultaneously in all the three south Indian languages, in Telugu as EEGA, in Tamil as NAAN EE and in Malayalam as EECHA. The combined collections from these three different adaptations is more than 80 crore and the time is not far off when it would reach the magical figure of Rs. 100 crore. These indeed are interesting times in the world of cinema in India per se.
