Maryam Zakaria happy to move from item songs to lead role

2012 was pretty eventful for Maryam Zakaria of Iranian-Swedish origin. She had two of her item numbers, 'Pritam Pyaare' [ROWDY RATHORE] and 'Dil Mera Muft Ka' (AGENT VINOD), turning out to be hugely popular and soon after she also bagged the first lead role of her career in the form of Indra Kumar's GRAND MASTI where she is paired opposite Aftab Shivdasani.

Though being in India for some time, the waiting period to strike big in Bollywood wasn't really difficult for her as there was something or the else happening practically every year during her three year stint so far.

"I can say that it was my destiny after all,'' details Maryam, "I was here for some time and waiting for the right project. Last year when I was shooting for AGENT VINOD, I knew in my heart that it would be noticed by people. Presently I am so happy as the place where I am today is something that I had dreamt of so many years ago. I came to India in 2009 but was travelling back and forth between here and my home. However today, I can say that India is my home."

One is inclined to ask Maryam that to sustain well in this new home of hers, what next is she looking forward to after GRAND MASTI in order to keep it all going for her? Is there any new film that she has signed, either as a heroine or for a dance number?

"Well, other things will come as well,'' she says in an animated tone, "I want to start working on something and then make announcements. Otherwise what's the point in talking about things till everything has not been put down in paper?"
