BOL BACHCHAN: This way or that way GOLMAAL is the guiding motif

Rohit Shetty's latest film BOL BACHCHAN which is going to release this Friday is supposedly a modern adaptation of the super hit film of yore GOLMAAL, which had one of the finest music given by the combination of Pancham and Gulzar. For Rohit Shetty, GOLMAAL has been a brand name that has been his magical wand to rule over the box office for quite a long time. This could be the possible reason why in his latest venture Rohit Shetty tried to seek inspiration from the original GOLMAAL which is one of the biggest laugh riots that the world of Hindi cinema has produced.

As a matter of fact Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the master craftsman of Hindi cinema, who established his own style of film making characterized by clean and simple style of film making, has found new converts in the present times among the new breed of directors, who are revisiting the themes of Hrishikesh Da by tampering it with the context of the present times.

BOL BACHCHAN brings Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan together again after YUVA and ZAMEEN. YUVA had given ample scope for both these actors to display ample histrionics and there is a sense of anticipation about display of the same kind of histrionics in BOL BACHCHAN as well. Ajay Devgn has been the lucky mascot for Rohit Shetty from the time he had made ZAMEEN and it is the relationship that has gone from strength to strength.

It is after a long time that mainstream actors have returned to one of the oldest sports in the country, Wrestling, and it would be interesting to find out whether the element of betting which has become the bane of modern sports finds expression in BOL BACHCHAN. The proposition is contextual in view of the book that has been released recently CLAY AND DUST written by Musharraf Ali Faruqqi which has brought in succinct details the element of match fixing as an integral part of sports tournament where money is at stake.

For Rohit Shetty it indeed is a monumental step forward in his film career as theatrical rights of BOL BACHCHAN have been bought by Fox Studios for Rs. 94 crore, i.e. the cost incurred in making BOL BACHCHAN has already been covered by Fox Studios. It being the era of one liners starting with DABANGG in recent times, BOL BACHCHAN has also joined the party and the one liners have been given to Ajay Devgn to further enhance his image it seems. The famous one-liners in BOL BACCHAN are a product of situation made by Ajay Devgn who loves to speak English but translates Hindi to English and gives rise to funny situations. The samples include 'Bagal mein chhora aur sheher mein dhindora' as 'Boy under armpit and hypercity noise pollution', and 'Tujhe paakar meri chhaati aur bhi choudi ho gayi hai' as 'My chest has become blouse'.

Let's hope that the magic formula of Rohit Shetty would also work in BOL BACHCHAN as well, at least for the sake of Junior B, and but of course for Ajay Devgn.
