Prabhudheva talks tough: Remaking isn't cakewalk

Prabhudheva is on a roll and one of the hottest selling directors in the Bollywood circuit today. With huge successes like ROWDY RATHORE and WANTED behind him, he is bound to be. However, even though till date some out there believe that the South import has been plain lucky to pick up original subjects from down South and remake them, the filmmaker says that all of this is much easier said than done.

"If remaking a film would have been a cakewalk, I would have done 100 movies already," he says, "I would have been the King of the world. Come on, a remake has its own difficulties that need to be tackled. There is a different kind of magic required. If I would have remade ROWDY RATHORE frame to frame similar to that of its South original, would it have grossed so much across the country?"

While his question does carry good sense, one also can't deny the fact that what really worked in favour of ROWDY RATHORE was the sustained promotion that came its way ever since it was announced a year ago.

"Totally agree with that and credit must go to UTV to keep the momentum on from the very beginning," says Prabhudheva in a humble tone, "The way they kick-started the campaign to designing the hand-made posters and then coming up with those innovative captions, they did their best. I am indebted to them. Moreover Sanjay Leela Bhansali was a great support as well and so was Akshay sir. The commercial response that the film has garnered is my way to thank them. Both gave me complete creative freedom and didn't interfere even once."

He adds though that it has been possible for the creative freedom he has received in Bollywood so far. "There is mutual respect involved that helped us all succeed," he says.

Hope he gets to say the same for Kumar Taurani's film as well which is all set to go on floors soon.
