Is JOKER similar to LAGAAN?

The first look of Shirish Kunder's JOKER, followed by the interesting trailer has certainly managed to arouse the curiosity of the cine goers, but it has also triggered a debate regarding it's similarity with Aamir Khan's iconic period cricket drama, LAGAAN.

So, in order to get our facts right and know the truth behind the obvious similarities we decided to talk to actor, Pitobash Tripathy, who as we know essays one of the principal characters in the Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer, JOKER.

When we put across our question to Pitobash he nonchalantly replied, ''No JOKER and LAGAAN are not similar projects. The only thing that could have led to this question being asked may be due to the fact that just like in LAGAAN, there are eleven principal/main characters in JOKER, with all of them essaying important roles. And the set up is rural as well. However, the similarities end right there. In fact, quite contrary to the belief that JOKER is a comedy film, it is actually a sci-fi fantasy film, with an alien angle thrown in!''

Releasing on August 31st, Shirish Kunder's JOKER certainly seems to be a brave effort on part of UTV Motion Picture's and Akshay Kumar's Hari Om Entertainment Company, in order to provide some really 'hatke' (read, alien!) entertainment to the patrons of Hindi cinema. And it will be interesting to see if, 'sometimes being alien is the only option', works for them as well!
