Powerloom worker Shafique Shaikh, who plays Superman, has done small roles in most of the Malegaon films. And MALEGAON KA SUPERMAN was his first big role, for which he was highly excited. However, Shafique initially appeared apprehensive and took time to open up. ''Shafique won't speak to us initially. He looked hesitant on the first day of the shoot. So we wondered how this ice would break. He took time to open up but, eventually, when the shoot began Shafique was at his comfortable best and mingled with us. Ask Faiza if Shafique actually believed about a documentary being shot on the film and she replies, ''In the beginning he didn't believe about it. The people in Malegoan thought we are some news people who would go away in 3-4 days. But our prolonged stay for 3 months cleared all the confusion.'' Shafique worked at the looms in the night and would come for the shoot during the day. He was late on the first day of his shoot and got yelled by Nasir. Faiza recalls the first day of shoot, ''The very first day, while doing a test shoot, he was late and got yelled by the director. Since it was Shafique's first lead role, he was worried about his performance. So when the test shoot happened he was highly curious and wanted it to go well.'' Shafique, who was juggling with time, took a leave from his job. ''Shooting during the day and working in the looms at night was taxing for him. He even took leave from the powerlooms and so Nasir, the director, had to pay him compensation for the work he was missing,'' says Faiza on a concluding note.
