Will LONDON PARIS NEW YORK hit the bull's eye?

Goldie Behl made his mark in the world of Hindi cinema with a sensitive debut BASS ITNA SA KHWAB HAI, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, which though was not commercially successful, but was critically well received. But his DRONA starring Abhishek Bachchan could not get the commercial success that it aspired for by virtue of its novelty. Now Goldie Behl, in sync with romances with the twist mantra that the film industry is warming up to has come up with LONDON PARIS NEW YORK. It has an off-beat pairing of Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari.

London, Paris and New York are three cities on the map of the globe which have different cultural nuances, but all these three cities have their own genetic code of facilitating proliferation of romance and LONDON PARIS NEW YORK tries to situate the romance that blossoms within the cultural ethos of these three cities. It has been directed by Anu Menon and LONDON PARIS NEW YORK has had its share of controversy with the censor board that was slightly unhappy about the adult content in the film. But one need to factor in that the young audience of the present times, which has an exposure to all kind of adult content, has its sensibility quite mature to be able to view an adult content on the screen.

For Aditi Rao Hydari in particular LONDON PARIS NEW YORK would be an interesting film after having graced the silver screen with a multiple star cast in YEH SAALI ZINDAGI directed by Sudhir Mishra. She already has made her mark as an actor.

For Ali Zafar after MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN where he had an Imran Khan to compete with, LPNY is a film where he can test his mettle and establish a chord with the Indian audience. Ali Zafar has also given the music for LPNY. For a diaspora, for whom the regional identities outside their native countries have defused and conversed, LPNY could be a film which may help in establishing a bond between the youth of India and Pakistan outside their native countries. The director of LPNY, Anu Menon is a product of the London film school, and may be this could be the reason why she would have chosen her city of graduation as the location to shoot her first film in Hindi.

The story line is cliched, boy meets girl, and that too, a Punjabi boy and a Tamil Brahmin girl, which provides opportunities for comedy, situational at that, and has been one of the favorite themes of the filmmakers in the recent times, RA.ONE being one of the latest examples.

LONDON PARIS NEW YORK are iconic cities which still have been unexplored by the world of Hindi cinema, the major exposure being through popular landscapes, but one hopes that with a director who is a product of London Film School, the viewer of India would get to see a new facet of these cities.
