Madhuri Dixit: Would her comeback be as trail blazing as her debut?

As she celebrated her birthday on Tuesday, and was busy interacting with her fans through her website, she would indeed be pondering whether her come back in Hindi films would be as cataclysmic as her debut! Indeed the thought must be pondering at the back of her mind as the return of Karisma Kapoor with DANGEROUS ISHHQ has not met the expected response, the same happened with Raveena Tandon as well, who did an item song, but has now been relegated to doing TV shows.

But Madhuri Dixit is different, after all she ruled over the hearts of the fans of Hindi films for more than a decade. Her previous comeback when she was supposedly testing the waters about her acceptability through AAJA NACH LE was not a commercial success but it was critically acclaimed. Even New York Times in its review of AAJA NACHLE had claimed that there still is a lot left in Madhuri Dixit as far as enacting a role is concerned.

May be, this could have been the trigger point for her, and she has maintained her chemistry with the audience by interacting with it through various show programs on different television channels. After all, it was her effortless dance that had made her a hit with the audience. She was one of those rare stars who could cast a spell of miasma over the audience with her dance performance right from TEZAAB to DEVDAS. No wonder, when Karan Johar was selected to be a part of the team to judge the dance performance in the latest version of 'Jhalak Dikhlaja' along with Madhuri Dixit, he tweeted in excitement. Madhuri still has the aura.

As a matter of fact when TEZAAB was released in 1988 or so, this writer had been witness to her prowess in dancing and the spell that she had cast on the audience. The majority of the youth would buy the ticket, venture into cinema halls, watch the song, 'Ek Do Teen' and then walk off, waiting for another show to unfold. For the youth of those times it felt as if Madhuri Dixit was dancing for them, and it was her ability to sport the look of innocence while even enacting erotic or intimate scenes in the film that endeared her to her fans for more than a decade.

Madhuri's career has been a story of initial failures, dizzying success, spluttering growth and then swan song in the form of DEVDAS. In the same manner her comeback through AAJA NACHLE has not been a success commercially, so one only hopes that now the films that would be released would show her histrionics once again.

After all, she is the Madhubala of the modern times and in her heydays she vied with Madhubala in the hostel walls to find a place of adornment. Let's hope she is able to begin the second innings of her acting career in a trail blazing fashion.
