LOVE WRINKLE-FREE takes international film circuit by storm

PVR Director's Rare's offering LOVE, WRINKLE-FREE is a film that has taken the international film circuit by storm. It is a romantic comedy, but not a comedy of the teenagers, but of a couple who are in their late thirties and early forties. This category is the biggest population construct in the urban India today, and it would be able to identify with LOVE WRINKLE-FREE as the situations underlined in the film are quite akin to their lives, specifically in the metropolitan cities. No wonder a gang of 30 Harley Davidson bike drivers are driving down on their mean machines to watch the film in Mumbai, perhaps to express the solidarity with the generation that has been portrayed in the film, as Harley Davidson as a bike is quite popular with those who are in the age group of 35-45.
Directed by Sandeep Mohan, it is a romantic comedy where the couple, played by Ash Chandler and Shernaz Patel and how there life goes topsy-turvy when it is revealed that an unplanned pregnancy at the age of 46 is on offer. The situation is compounded by the fact that the couple has a teenage daughter, and how would she react to such a situation.
Incidentally the age difference between the couples in the film is 10 years, Ash Chandler plays a 36 year old man, while his wife is 46 years of age. The age which has been used as the reference point in LOVE WRINKLE-FREE justifies the tag line for the film- AN Anti- Aging Comedy. Sandeep Mohan is no babe in the woods, as has honed his cinematic skills under the baton of Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the cult film HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM. The film has been situated in Goa and Calangute Beach is the key reference point for the film.
While PVR Director's Rare has taken the initiative to release LOVE WRINKLE FREE in India, the film has got enthusiastic response worldwide and 40 investors from 20 different countries, including his producer Giju John are quite confident that the film would deliver.
It has been a part of the Indian social construct otherwise that late pregnancies, characterized by the age gap of more than a decade between the eldest and youngest sibling, and it is incidental that the echo of this reality finds expression through a cinematic oeuvre in a humorous manner through LOVE WRINKLE-FREE. It was the inaugural film at the India International Film Festival, in Tampa Bay, Florida in USA.
Among other accolades that the film has been bestowed with include, receiving a huge appreciation at Marche Du Film-Cannes Film Festival, South Asian International Film Festival, SAIFF, New York, Indian International Film Festival, IIFF, Tampa Bay, Florida, Mumbai International Film Festival etc. It was shortlisted by Official Competitive Selection in the Best International Film category at the 22nd Cinequest International Film Festival, San Jose, California, USA. It is now after five years when Mira Nair's NAMESAKE shook the international film fraternity way back in 2007, that LOVE WRINKLE-FREE has made the fans take an interest in the offerings from India.
LOVE WRINKLE-FREE is frothy look at the obsession of our society in the present times about 'looks and youth'. It underlines the fact that one should age gracefully. Goa is the reference point of the film, the music obviously has to be of the Goa Boy, and indeed Remo Fernandes, along with Shibani Kashyap have done a wonderful job.
LOVE WRINKLE-FREE is a representation of true urban India, holding a mirror to the manner in which relationships in the country are being tested through modern reference points including 'smooth skin', 'good looks', and how a family that has been caught in the torrid times copes up with it. LOVE WRINKLE-FREE marks the return of Ashwin Mushran to Hindi cinema after a really long time.
One only hopes that LOVE WRINKLE-FREE travels outside the metropolitan cities as well and reaches out to the audience all over the country.
