Shriya Saran delighted with positive response for MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN

Shriya Saran is a delighted lot. Her crossover film MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN, which was premiered last Sunday at the 56th BFI London Film Festival, has garnered some very good response. While this Deepa Mehta film has been hailed for its historic relevance as well as sensitive treatment, it has also fetched brownie points for Shriya who plays Parvati in the film.

"The film was completed quite some time back but Shriya didn't speak about it either during its making or even later when it started doing festival rounds. In fact each of the actors featuring in this ensemble affair, be it Shahana Goswami, Ronit Roy, Satya Bhabha, Siddharth or Seema Biswas, stayed mum as they wanted to start talking about it only when it gained further momentum," informs a source.

Another major reason for this silence was the controversial content that is actually the core theme of the film. As per insiders, the film showcases India as it was after Independence and there are quite a few references to the socio-economic-political state of the country during the time gone by.

"For Shriya it was a huge challenge to get it perfectly right. In her near 60 film career spread over a little more than a decade, she has done quite a few hardcore commercial films as well as sensitive tales however this one was different, more so since she was directed by none less than Deepa Mehta. After some of her quintessential South assignments, there is a new Shriya that is being seen on screen," the source adds.

Though the cast and crew of the film are yet to begin their promotional campaign for the its release in India, Shriya as well as new find Satya Bhabha (who hails from London) are gearing up for the days ahead.
