The 43rd International Film Festival of India, IFFI 2012, will open on November 20th with the Indian premiere of the Academy Award winning Director Ang Lee's much awaited 3D film LIFE OF PI. The film's worldwide theatrical release is slated for November 23. The film stars Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Suraj Sharma, Adil Hussain and Gerard Depardieu. The film had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival some time back.

The film's director Ang Lee presented a curtain raiser of his film to the media and a select gathering of Bollywood celebrities in the presence of the film's Indian cast, the CEO of Fox Star Studios Vijay Singh, and the IFFI director Shankar Mohan, on 29th October at PVR Cinemas, Juhu, Mumbai. Shankar Mohan also presented a memento to Ang Lee. Though the Oscar winning director won't be able to make it to Goa, the cast of the film will walk the red carpet on the opening day.

LIFE OF PI is based on an adapted screenplay of a novel by the same name by Yann Martel. It's an adventure film and a 3D visual extravaganza that tells the story of a 16 year old Piscine Molitor Patel (Pi) of Pondicherry (Puducheri), who survives a shipwreck along with animals like an orangutan, a zebra, a hyena and a Royal Bengal Tiger. The film explores the issues of spirituality, religion and life as a whole.

Shankar Mohan, Festival Director, IFFI 2012, also made the announcement of the closing film of the festival on the occasion. Mira Nair's THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST will close the festival with its India premiere. The film is a political thriller based on the novel by the same name by Mohsin Hamid. It stars Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schreiber, Riz Ahmed, Om Puri and Shabana Azmi. The film opened the 69th Venice International Film Festival in August 2012 and was also part of the Toronto International Film Festival's gala programme.

Shankar Mohan expressed his great joy that two very important films with definite Indian connections will have their Indian premiere at IFFI 2012 that will also launch the festivities associated with the commemoration of the 'hundred years of Indian Cinema'.

The 43rd IFFI 2012 will be held in Goa from November 20 - 30, 2012, providing an opportunity for film lovers to watch, appreciate and learn from a cross section of film entries in the Indian Panorama, World Cinema, Retrospectives, Documentaries, Master Classes etc.
