When Oscar winner Ang Lee blew warm kisses for Tabu

It happened at the curtain raiser screening of LIFE OF PI, the 100 million dollar film, directed by Oscar winner Ang Lee. The much celebrated director of globally acclaimed and successful films like CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN was in Mumbai to personally promote and present the snippets of his latest film to the media and a select gathering of Bollywood celebrities. His fascination for India was quite apparent during the brief Q&A session after the screening. According to him LIFE OF PI is the most difficult film of his career and he loves India, its spirituality, and the smile on the faces of people in spite of their tough living conditions.

The much-acclaimed director admitted that he found Indian actors and technicians at par with the best in the world. While he talked copiously about Irrfan Khan, Suraj Sharma, and Adil Hussain and their immense contribution to the film, he had special praise for Tabu. It was a wordless gesture of Ang Lee that was worth a million complimentary words. He said he had no words to describe her beautiful persona and can only offer his kisses to express his sense of admiration for her. And he did exactly that, blew umpteen number of air kisses for the star and actor who will be seen in a film after a long gap of time. On her part, Tabu looked slim, trim, tall, and prim in her knee length dress, fully deserving of the unusual accolade and gesture of the Chinese/Taiwanese director who seemed quite smitten by her beauty.

CHECK OUT: IFFI to open with Ang Lee's LIFE OF PI and close with Mira Nair's THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST

LIFE OF PI is releasing worldwide on November 23, 2012. It stars Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Suraj Sharma, Adil Hussain and Gerard Depardieu. It had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival some time back and is also the opening film at the International Film Festival of India, Goa (IFFI, Goa) this year.

LIFE OF PI is based on an adapted screenplay of a best-selling novel by the same name by Yann Martel. It is being promoted as an adventure film and a 3D visual extravaganza that tells the story of a 16-year-old Piscine Molitor Patel (Pi) of Pondicherry, who survives a shipwreck along with animals like an orangutan, a zebra, a hyena and a Royal Bengal Tiger. The film metaphorically explores the issues of spirituality, religion and life and has been hailed as one of the most important films of the year by well-known international critics and is expected to be in the race for the Oscars in 2013. The Time magazine has even gone to the extent of terming it the next AVATAR for its 3D technical wizardry and spectacular visual style.
