For the part of an alcoholic girl, director Ahishor Solomon had to scout for some time before he could catch hold of the right actresses. More so since there were lovemaking scenes involved as well, something that required certain class and finesse for the girl to portray in the Naseeruddin Shah-Randeep Hooda starrer.
'The part that Elena plays in the film is quite complex. Firstly, she plays an alcoholic. Not many actresses were either comfortable or competent enough to enact such a character with conviction. In fact many amongst the 35 odd girls that were auditioned for the role took a stereotypical route of playing an alcoholic woman, something that didn't really go with Ahishor's vision,' informs a source.
Further trouble came from the fact that there were love-making scenes involved as well. Ahishor wanted to film these scenes aesthetically and didn't want someone who just shed clothes at the drop of the hat.
CHECK OUT: Naseeruddin Shah-Randeep Hooda starrer JOHN DAY adds on to the intrigue
'This is where Elena stepped in,' the source continues, 'Though she is a foreign national, she seemed perfect for the part since other than being body beautiful, she turned out to be a good actress as well, courtesy some of her work in Bengali that the makers had seen. Moreover, she never over-did her alcoholic part during the audition.'
She was also non-fussy when told that a prominent scene in the film required Randeep Hooda, her co-star, to throw her into a pool in order to wake her up after a hangover. Not many heroines were game for that but Elena didn't carry any qualms. Says Ahishor, 'Right from the beginning, I wanted a fresh face for the part. She fitted in perfectly.'
Well, come 13th September and we would know once this co-production of K. Asif, Anjum Rizvi and Aatef A Khan arrives in theatres.
