BO: MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA Vishal Bhardwaj's biggest film ever

Fox Star Studios and VB Pictures MATRU KI BIJLEE KA MANDOLA have managed to attract audiences during the week collecting net of 41.15 crore world-wide making it Vishal Bhardwaj's biggest film ever

The film has garnered Rs 33.15 crore net box-office in India and Rs 8 crore from overseas - along with the revenues from TV, Music and Home Video has recovered its investment in week 1 itself.

Vishal Bhardwaj, very happy with the fact that MKBKM has made money, says, ''This is my biggest opening and appreciation is coming from lot of people. But I am really happy and relieved about the fact that I am able to make the kind of movie that I want to make and still have a profitable film.''

Vijay Singh, CEO Fox Star Studios says, ''MKBKM has polarised audiences and is testimony to the changing audience preferences. It is todays JAANE BHI DO YAARON! What makes it more gratifying is that despite differentiated content it has found an audience base to enable the film recover its investment in week 1 itself."

The film starring Pankaj Kapur, Shabana Azmi, Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma has earned rave critics reviews and is being seen as a satirical commentary on the country's social system. MKBKM is based on a land scam in Haryana.

But more than that, the film represents the changing face of Indian Cinema and Bollywood's quirky take on the Indian politics and state of affairs in our country. The film has very intelligently spoken about the corruption in the society using satire as a medium to talk to the masses and invoked comparisons with the satirical classic JAANE BHI DO YAARON.

Political Satire as such has not been a well explored subject in cinema and hence this one is a bold step pushing the envelope where no one else has dared tread. It gives a fresh voice to the youth which is becoming more aware, knowing that their voices count that they can make a difference.
