Ruk Jaana Nahin Tu Kahin Haar Ke Kaanto Pe Chal Ke Milenge Saaye Bahaar Ke

This song from Vinod Khanna's hit movie IMTIHAN (1974) is very close to his real life because if readers have seen the movie than they may recall that in the movie Vinod Khanna's father is depicted as a businessman who wishes his son to pursue business but Vinod Khanna rebels and chooses to become a lecturer leaving his father's wealth to establish his own fortune.

Likewise in real life when Sunil Dutt offered Vinod Khanna his debut movie MAN KA MEET (1969), he had to select between a career in movies or family business. When Vinod Khanna opted for movies his father gave him two years to prove his worth as an actor or else return back to family business. Vinod Khanna took the challenge and like the movie IMTIHAN, he sets out to prove his mettle which he did with his very first movie!

Though Vinod Khanna was flooded with offers after MAN KA MEET, the real success came his way after his forceful performance as the dreaded dacoit, Jabbar Singh in Raj Khosla's movie MERA GAON MERA DESH (1971), which I think is, if not superior but is at par, with Amjad Khan's mind-boggling portrayal of a dacoit as Gabbar Singh in SHOLAY (1975)

The younger generation, who may have not seen the movie, must watch the movie for Vinod Khanna's mesmerizing performance that remains till date Khanna's most outstanding performance. The highlight of the movie, besides Khanna's smashing personality, was his ferocious eyes that leave the viewers trembling and his walking style that added viciousness and ruthlessness to his character.

In an interview Vinod Khanna gave complete credit for his performance to his director Raj Khosla. He said, ''Khosla sahib explained the character to me and gave me time to study the nuance of the character i.e. his walking style, eyes movement and the typical north Indian accent. I gave my best but more than that I feel it was Khosla sahib's magic that he portrayed me more menacingly with his camera angles and the close-up shots.''

Vinod Khanna's memorable dialogue from the movie is still a craze...

Jabbar Singh ne sirf do hi baatein seekhi hai ... ek mauke ka fayda uthana ... aur apne dushman ka naam aur nishaan mita dena!

Glamsham.Com wishes Vinod Khanna Happy Birthday that fell on October 6.
