Bollywood mourns Manna Dey's demise

India mourned the death of legendary singer Manna Dey who passed away at a hospital in Bangalore on Thursday, leaving behind innumerable songs that have mesmerized his fans for generations.
Dey was 94-year-old.
Reacting to Dey's death, veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar said: 'It is a huge loss. We have worked for long long time. We used to discuss on different songs. I am feeling very very sad today.'
Singer Usha Uthup said: 'It is a very sad news. It is a huge loss for us.'
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said: 'We grew up listening to his songs ... We should be grateful that we had a person of his caliber.'
Actor Amitabh Bachchan said: 'Manna Dey, stalwart of the music world, passes away. Flooded with memories and his songs. In particular his rendition of Madhushala. Manna Dey RIP .. !! Prayers and condolences to loved ones and family! Strange how we connect events of our life with his songs! At work but shall keep a minutes silence, in Manna Dey's memory on set before we start ..!!'
'Manna Dey had a unique voice. He will live on through his songs Ai Meri Zohra Jabeen, dil ka haal suney dilwala, poocho na kaise maine RIP,' posted Shabana Azmi.
Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain said: 'Last of the great voice of golden Bollywood has moved on. Manna Da will be missed and forever revered.'
Actor Manoj Bajpayee posted: 'MANNA DEY is no more! a great singer!lets pray for him!my condolences to his family!his music will live for 1000 yrs.RIP.'
Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle said: 'oh no. such terrible news to get up to. manna dey no more? less melody in the world. #mannadey.The song that introduced me to manna day (through my father) was poocho na kaise maine rain bitaee...then barsaat ki raat, chori chori. My all time favourite though has to be laaga chunari me daag.....among many unforgettables of course.'
Singer Sunidhi Chauhan wrote: 'Heartbroken at Manna Da's shocking demise.'
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar said: 'Mannada, a Legendary singer with a golden voice, that ruled our hearts for decades, will be missed by all. Zindagi kaisi hai paheli haye.'
Social networking sites flooded with texts as people from different walks of life also posted their thoughts on Dey's demise.
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari tweeted: 'Deepest condolences on the sad demise of Sh. Manna Dey. His voice & unique style enthralled a whole generation Another legend has left us.'
Reacting to Dey's death, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said: 'In Manna Dey, we have lost a legendary singer. His immortal voice will remain with us forever. May his soul rest in peace.'
Dey died of cardiac arrest today at around 3:50 am.
