Recipient of 'Dada Saheb Phalke Award' Asha Bhosle turns 80 on 8 September, 2013. Glamsham.Com wishes her a very Happy Birthday and takes readers memory down the lane and enlightens them about her struggling phase and the people who played a pivotal role in her success.

Asha Bhosle made her debut at the same phase when other bigwigs of Bollywood like Geeta Dutt, Shamshad Begum and Lata Mangeshkar were ruling the roost. Hence, despite her debut as a solo singer with the song Do Chaar Idhar Do Chaar Udhar ....in the movie RAAT KI RAANI (1949), she had to struggle a lot and was entertained only by B-Grade filmmakers. However, she came into prominence thanks to Raj Kapoor and B. R. Chopra, who trusted her and offered her movies that made her career sail smoothly. Remember 'Nanhe Munne Bachche Teri Muththi Mein Kya Hai... in Raj Kapoor's BOOT POLISH and 'Ude Jab Jab Zulfein...' in B.R. Chopra's NAYA DAUR.

However, without the mention of music wizard O. P. Nayyar, Asha Bhosle's success story is incomplete. It was O.P. Nayyar who moulded her career, raising her to popularity in par with her elder sister.

Though O.P. Nayyar shared a hate relationship with Lata Mangeshkar on the other hand he had a soft corner for her younger sister, Asha Bhosle, whom he rated even better than Lata Mangeshkar. In fact, praising Asha Bhosle, in one of his interviews Nayyar went on to say, ''If Lata is born once in hundred years, then an Asha is born in two hundred years.''

The duo worked together for almost a decade and half when cheap allegations of illicit affairs between the two started splashing the gossip magazines. Whereas the truth was that the duo shared an affair with music.

Thus, forced by circumstances, and not by choice, the duo departed after working together in their last film - PRAN JAYE PAR VACHAN NA JAYE (1973) for which Asha Bhosle won the prestigious National Award for best female playback singer for the sentimental song that still brings tears into Nayyar's eyes whenever he remembers Asha, for the befitting lyrics go very much in tune with Nayyar's real life - Chain se humko kabhi aap ne jeene nahi diya...

Few Hits of Asha / O.P. combination

1) Jaiyeye Aap Kahan Jayenge... (MERE SANAM)
2) Aao Huzoor Tum Ko... (KISMAT)
3) Mang Ke Saath Tumhara... (NAYA DAUR)
4) Mein Shayad Tumhare Liye Ajnabee Hoon... (YEH RAAT PHIR NA AAYEGI)
5) Isharon Isharon Mein...(KASHMIR KI KALI)
