An Open Letter To Vaani Kapoor

Dear Vaani Kapoor

It's always heartening to see someone new on screen blast away with the confidence of a veteran. Sights like these are few and far between and it was indeed a joy watching you bring to life a character, which at first instance, one thought, was down and out.

But like a phoenix, you made Tara rise from the ashes to paint a character so real, that one felt for you when you had to make the ultimate exit at the altar of love.

Your introduction scene was out of the ordinary. You gave it that deft touch to make it extraordinary! You came back after the interval with a nonchalant attitude, even though what happened to you earlier was enough for lesser mortals to run for that bottle of pesticide. But for Tara, it was not the end of the world. It was a new beginning. To top it, she was willing to look at the situation with compassion, and a little amusement.

You brought to life this character who spoke volumes with her body language, expressive eyes and mischievous grin.

Even a seasoned actor like Parineeti Chopra was made to look like a passenger with your brilliance. Now, I am not comparing you to her, or any other actor, because you are in a league entirely of your own. I only hope there is consistency in your performances to follow, and roles you take do not overlap with the character of Tara you played in SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE.

Of late, I have been impressed by another debutante, Shriswara who mesmerized one and all in the recently released D-DAY directed by Nikhil Advani.

I hear reports of you having signed a 3-film deal with Yashraj films. While that may be good, don't let that put you in a comfort zone. Move out, make those rounds to the right production houses and sign on for good women-oriented roles. The three films may or may not materialize. Things may change. Remember what happened with Urvashi Sharma? She had reportedly signed an eight-film deal with a leading music company. After NAQAAB, she literally went into hibernation because of that contract.

Hopefully, that will not be the case with you.

God Bless You
Martin D'Souza
