Kajol is unarguably contemporary Indian cinema’s one of the few actresses who can be compared at par with actresses of the 50’s and 60’s who were an amalgamation of art, beauty and versatility. August 5 marks the birth of this great actress; Glamsham.Com wishes her birthday greetings and reveals that though Kajol hails from a family of generations of film professionals ranging from actors to film producers and directors, Kajol as a youngster was not interested to become an actor!

Readers may be aware that Kajol is the fourth generation in the family committed to the film fraternity. From her mother Tanuja, her aunt Nutan, her grandmother Shobana Samarth and her great-grandmother Rattan Bai were all actresses. While her great grandmother Rattan Bai began acting career from 1933 (YAHUDI KI LADKI), her grandmother Shobana Samarth began her career two years later in 1935 VILASI ISHWAR and the duo ruled the 40’s and 50’s.

Thus it was natural that Kajol too would join cinema but Kajol declined. In an interview she said, “Being bought up in the comforts of South Mumbai I was lazy and easygoing. Hence when Rahul uncle (eminent film maker Rahul Rawail) offered me BEKHUDI, I was reluctant to accept the role.  I had seen my mom and dad (Shomu Mukherjee, eminent film producer and director) slogging so hard for their movies that I felt working in a film is a laborious job but when I found everybody pampering me on the set and taking care of my every little thing I felt its fun. My idea was to enjoy the moment and if I found it arduous I would drop out.”

She added, “However my father could realize my state of mind. Before the mahurat shot he calmly asked me, ‘Are you sure that you want to do the film because if you change your mind in the middle of the film then it will be a huge setback for many as a lot of money is involved in film making.’ I thought for the moment and promised my dad that I would certainly complete the film.”

Kajol made the commitment emotionally but later with the success of BAAZIGAR, KARAN ARJUN, DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE etc. she just got hooked to her career.
