Actress Rani Mukerji is gung-ho about her upcoming film MARDAANI which is all set to release next week. Rani, who plays the role of a tough cop, would be seen in an action-packed avatar taking the baddies head on.
Ask Rani whether her new avatar will attract the audiences to the theatres and she feels that a film merely works because of its content and not because of the actors featuring in it.
“If you really do the analysis, then content is the king. Today the people have been my fans because the content of my films have been strong. My films which were weak in content haven’t worked. If the content is nice then whether it is a new comer or a superstar, the film will work. If content isn’t great then even if there are big superstars, the film will not work,” admits Rani, “Today also I don’t think so the movie or content can sell or run because of my name. My movie will work if the story excites the audience. It is important for the content to be good enough to bring the audience to the theatres.”

However, she begs to differ when it comes to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, whose films are often said to run because of his star power!
“There is only one actor in today’s times - Salman Khan, who’s films work because of his name or rather because of whom people go to the theatres. But if the content isn’t nice, then even his films won’t make the kind of business they generally do. Matlab, wo (films) karti hai bahot acha kyunki usme Salman Khan hai, lekin agar content acha ho toh wo sone pe suhaga hai,” concludes Rani.
MARDAANI, directed by Pradeep Sarkar, is produced by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films and is slated to release on August 22, 2014.
