That Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal enjoy an unparalleled chemistry is known to all who have seen them rocking in many super-duper hit comedies like the HERA PHERI series etc. Keeping the above in mind producer Akshay Kumar has turned to his best buddy Paresh Rawal to act in his home banner Grazing Goat Productions and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.
Naturally expectations are not very high considering the fact that OMG is a light-hearted take on cynics and atheists. However, with Himesh Reshammiya returning to full-fledged composing we do expect some soulful and melodious compositions by the once numero uno composer. The talented Meet Brothers and Sachin-Jigar too have been used as guest composers and giving them company are a host of talented and renowned lyricist like Kumaar, Shabbir Ahmed, Subrat Sinha, Sameer and Swanand Kirkere. So, let's check out if the soundtrack really makes us exclaim, 'Oh my God!'
As soon as the first song opens with the chants of 'Hey Ram Hey Krishna' followed by the legendary signature tune of Dev Anand's 'Dum Maaro Dum' one is forced to jump to conclusion that 'Don't Worry' (Hey Ram) is just another take off on the evergreen number. However, thankfully Himesh proves us wrong and how! because it's all Himesh after that. The absolutely rocking rhythmic beats of this club composition brings back vintage Himesh where he combined beats and rhythm and delivered one chartbuster after another. And not only does he compose but also sings and gives full on support to Benny Dayal and Arya Acharya, who come together to belt out a track that has chartbuster written all over it. A song that will find universal acceptance, be it the youth or kids, for it's terrific beats, and the old due to its devotional aspect, quite like Akshay Kumar's chartbusting number from BHOOL BHULAIYAA , 'Hare Krishna Hare Ram' ! Lyricist Subrat Sinha deserves kudos for penning a number that strikes just the right balance between devotion and entertainment and never gets preachy or boring.

Even though the original has everything going for it yet one enjoys the remix version of 'Don't Worry' (Hey Ram) because a lot of hard work has been done to make it more appealing and club worthy with added beats and rhythm.
Meet Brothers riding high on the success of their last super hit, 'Tere Shirt Da Button' (KYAA SUPER KOOL HAIN HUM) feature as the guest composers for the next number, 'Mere Nishaan' . Sung by Meet Brothers - Anjjan and Kailash Kher the song portrays God's feelings of dismay about the current age scenario. The soulful track has been written by lyricist Kumaar and his words have depth and meaningful message and above all it features super star, Akshay Kumar who essays a cameo in the film and plays Lord Krishna. The track has a 'sufi' feel blended with western drums, violins, guitar and the rockish touch which adds a unique flavor to the song. It also incorporates a subtle usage of flute and Indian percussion which gives a feel as if lord Krishna himself is talking. The trio has done justice to this composition by beautifully materializing emotions into a song, sung from God's point of view. The song fits beautifully and goes along with the narrative and provides an insight into the film itself.
Himesh holds fort once again with 'Tu Hi Tu' which is once again a clever combination on part of the composer to combine devotional elements and encase it in a romantic type outing to give the song a universal acceptance, a clever ploy on part of the highly experienced lyricist Sameer. However it does remind of Saif Ali Khan's super hit track from COCKTAIL 'Tumhi Ho Bhandhu' in parts. The song appears in as many as four versions. The original has been rendered by Mohd Irfan who does a pretty good job. He has also been chosen to render the remix version which provides song with added zest, heightened rhythm, beats and some lively English back up female vocals.
The 'Tu Hi Tu' reprise version is more soulful and more catchy and has been delivered by Suraj Jagan in his characteristic soft rock style. Last but not the least Ash King's sweet vocals welcome 'Tu Hi Tu' (Unplugged) and it's rightly unplugged as there is minimal music and only Ash's sweet vocals enchant the listeners.
The song also appears as 'O My God Soundtrack' where only chants of 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' is heard and is rendered by Zubeen Garg.
The 'Krishna Theme' (Flute) by guest composers Anjjan- Meet Brothers is an enchanting instrumental piece comprising only of heavenly flute piece by Prakash Nath.
What must be added here is that all the versions are very good and one does not get tired or bored as the music arrangements are different and all the singers have done full justice to all.
Finally arrives the song that is has already caught the fancy of the nation 'Go Go Govinda'. Featuring the DABANGG and ROWDY RATHORE beauty Sonakshi and dance and now director sensation, Prabhu Dheva the song is dedicated to Lord Krishna. It's a festive number which celebrates the famous 'Dahi Handi' festival. Although the signature tune is not original and especially it's mukkhda 'govinda ala re ala zara matki sambhal brijbala' (BLUFFMASTER) is sung on every 'Janamashthmi' and 'Dahi handi' festivals. There are also shades of Rishi-Neetu's RD Burman's number from RAFOOCHAKKAR (Chuk Chuk), yet Himesh has thrown in his own bits and pieces with good help from Shabbir Ahmed and made it a riotous outing. With Mika Singh and Shreya Ghoshal in their full 'dhamaal' elements, this one that will surely make the audience go ballistic in the aisles. The song also appears as the Reprise version sung ably by new talent Aman Trikha.

Sachin - Jigar along with renowned lyricist Swanand Kirkere have been anointed to compose the last track and it's yet another devotional track, 'Hari Bol' that has the typical Gujarati folk essence a la, 'Nimbooda' (HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM). But since this is religious in nature the effect is different. Famous Gujarati folk artist, Kirti Sagathia, who has sung many Bollwood songs that have the characteristic Gujarati folk tune attached, gets to render the number and he is pro as always.
On the whole it's a good end to a pretty good album. After ending a self-imposed embargo, wherein he decided to compose music for only the films he acted in, composer Himesh Reshammiya proved that the magic is still intact with BODYGUARD. And he now has another winner in OMG OH MY GOD! The 'Go Govida' song is already a chartbuster and there are two other potential or let's just say, sure shot super hit tracks 'Don't Worry' (Hey Ram) and 'Tu Hi Tu' in this album which incidentally are also our favourites. The popularity of the songs will definitely provide the movie with just the right impetus needed for a good opening when the film releases worldwide on 28th September 2012.
