Expectations abound from talented composers Ajay-Atul, to come up with a classy-cum-massy soundtrack, for the remake of Hollywood film WARRIORS, via the Dharma Production (along with Endemol and Lionsgate) venture BROTHERS. Keeping in mind their superb efforts in another remake by Dharma Productions, AGNEEPATH, the hopes soar even higher.
The much talked about item song featuring, Kareena Kapoor Khan (who has been the face behind countless super hit dance numbers like 'Fevicol Se
' etc ), 'Mera Naam Mary
', is a Marathi folk 'lavani
' number. The racy rhythm that is the requirement for any 'lavani
' number is missing and Chinmayee Sripada's sweet vocals too do not do justice. And so Ajay-Atul fail to recreate the 'Chikni Chameli
' magic, despite Kareena trying hard with her 'latkas
' and 'jhatkas
'. Brothers Anthem
is a routine motivational track with rockstar Vishal Dadlani (and all male chorus) doing a good job behind the mike. The situational number is sure to feature as a background score during the training sessions.
Shreya Ghoshal's sugary sweet and superbly controlled vocals and lovely philharmonic orchestra (especially towards the end of the track) and its arrangements are the highlight of the semi-philosophical situational and inspirational number, 'Gaaye Ja
'. While the difficult tune is inspired from the iconic 'Bekarar Dil Tu Gaaye Ja
' (DOOR KA RAHI) in parts, yet on the whole the song is a classy affair.
Mohammad Irfan's version of 'Gaaye Ja
' makes for a nice repeat hear.
Lovely piano notes and violins herald a classy love ditty, 'Sapna Jahan
', where Sonu Nigam and Neeti Mohan express feelings of love through a lovely whispering rendition in the beginning which ends with a nice crescendo. Lyrics are lovely, simple yet elegant.
In a nutshell, the audio of BROTHERS may not exactly boast of chartbusting massy compositions, though one must add that a project like this does not quite demand that. But considering that it is a Dharma Production venture one expected much more (especially keeping in mind the dark AGNEEPATH and other recent offerings). Two songs, 'Sapna Jahan
' and 'Gaaye Ja
' are our picks. The movie will certainly open to some packed houses on Independence Day.Music Review Rating Chart :-
