Two major production companies, Vipul Shah's Sunshine Pictures' Pvt Ltd and Reliance Entertainment, bring forth an action drama, COMMANDO-A ONE MAN ARMY. The name Vipul Shah is definitely a force to reckon with in Bollywood with as many as four successful films (all with Akshay Kumar) boasting of good popular music! And though COMMANDO is being directed by an outside director, Dilip Ghosh, yet one expects fresh talent Mannan Shah to come up with a good enough score for the movie, despite it's all out action genre, which relies mostly on Vidyut's hard core action (read stunts!) image. So let's play on and check out for ourselves!
It's an immense pleasure, in fact a delight to hear Dhruv Sangari, an iconic name in Sufi music and a protege of none other than the master himself, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, render 'Lutt Jawaan'. It might appear as another 'sufi' love song but Dhruv takes it to another level with his eclectic singing, and Mayur Puri's lyrics complement the 'sufiayana' feel, though one wished for a fresher tune.
It's Rahat Fateh Ali Khan who elevates the good mood further with another intense 'sufi ' love number, 'Baahon Mein' (Saawan Bairi) and the combo of Hindustani and western arrangements is good. The chorus is absolutely stunning and is the highlight of the track along with Mayur's lyrics.
Considering that COMMONDO is an action thriller, the presence of an item number is a must, and don't fear 'Mungda' is here! The retro dance track is quite rhythmic and superbly rendered by Sunidhi. Mayur's lyrics takes inspiration from the popular Helen's dance number, 'Mungda' (INKAAR), but uses innovative English, Hindi and Marathi words for universal appeal.
Daler's characteristic singing style comes to the fore with 'Lena Dena', a nice rhythmic 'Bhangra' dance composition that will surely come across well on the big screen. Mayur's lyrics paint the tough, strong and macho, but good at heart character of the main lead Vidyut and his intense feelings for his beloved.
To sum up, the audio album of Vipul Shah's COMMONDO-A ONE MAN ARMY may be terse and concise, but all the songs are well composed and rendered, and in sync with the movie. Our picks - 'Lutt Jawaan' and 'Saawan Bairi'. With some heavy promotions the songs should witness a wider appeal, especially after the release of the film on 12th April.
