Expectations from the audio score of Balaji Motion Pictures (ALT ENTERTAINMENT) hit the roof as director (turned producer) Mohit Suri films are always associated with chartbusting music. And when the film is a romantic musical drama based on bestselling novel by India's leading author Chetan Bhagat, prospects are even brighter. A host of composers and lyrics have been assigned to helm the music. So let us check out the audio of HALF GIRLFRIEND.

The song that is already making its presence felt on the charts and impressing all is 'Baarish' composed by Tanishk Bagchi, who also chips in with the lyrics along with Arafat Mehmood. Rendered well by Ash King and Shashaa Tirupati, the soft, romantic number lingers on in memory due to its lovely rhythm and nice mix of Hindustani (the use of santoor is refreshing ) and western with superb backing chorals.

Renowned Pakistani composer and singer (lead vocalist of the popular band Jal), Farhan Saeed's chartbusting 'Tu Thodi Der' is recreated and wow what a creation! The duet rendered by the surily Shreya Ghoshal and Farhan Saeed is simply fantastic and can be put on repeat mode, such is its intrinsic charm. Lyrics by Asad Chauhan edited by Kumaar.

'Stay A Little Longer' written (with Ishita Moitra Udhwani as co-lyricist) and rendered by Anushka Shahaney is the English version of 'Tu Thodi Der' and the song sounds good to the ears . The use of piano along with Sarangi and guitar is quite unique. We desis prefer the Hindi version but it's a nice attempt alright and deserves applause.

A soft, sufi rock number that one associates with Mohit Suri films, 'Tu Hi Hai' composed and rendered well by Rahul Mishra is an intense, farewell number that portrays the state of mind of the male lead and is an interesting hear.

It's Mithoon turn to woo listeners and he does exactly that with the heart melting, melodiously haunting, superbly orchestrated separation number, 'Main Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga' which comes in three different but interesting versions and has shades of AASHQUI 2 written all over it. The first / original version rendered by Mithoon, Arjit and Shashaa Tirupati while 'Pal Bhar'(by Arjit and Mithoon) is more unplugged with minimalistic arrangements and then there is the 'Love Theme' version which is a superb instrumental. The highlight of the song are just mind-blowing lyrics by Manoj Muntashir where the selfless and undying love is portrayed so very effectively.

'Lost Without You' is a unique number composed and rendered by Amit Mishra who fuses English and Hindi very well with Anushka Shahaney (also part lyricist with Kunaal Varma) rendering the rockish English part while Amit chips in with the Hindi.

It is Rishi Rich's turn to end the album on a peppy and happy note with 'Mere Dil Mein' and 'Mere Dil Mein' (Dialogue version) which can be also be classified as the title song which contains Arjun Kapoor dialogues from the movie. Veronica Mehta and Yash Navrekar render the fun filled number with ease. The song has a host of lyricists (one wonders why as the lyrics are nothing to write home about, they are just routine).

To conclude, Mohit Suri has a winner on hands and keeps his record of chartbusting scores unscathed with the music of HALF GIRLFRIEND. Tanishk's 'Baarish', Farhan's 'Tu Thodi Der' and Mithoon's 'Main Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga' are our picks. The popular audio (very important as it is a romantic drama) will surely aid in ensuring that HALF GIRLFRIEND gets a decent opening when it releases worldwide later this May.
