With a hat-trick of super successful films, with one bigger than the previous accredited to him, director Sajid Khan now undoubtedly ranks amongst the most sought after and top directors of the Hindi film industry. And despite bearing the brunt of non-stop criticism, he has always delivered what the audience wants, proving his detractors wrong. Naturally his upcoming film, HIMMATWALA, which is an official remake of the Jeetendra-Sridevi blockbuster of the same name, becomes a highly anticipated venture especially after the superb theatrical trailer (and song promos) that has managed to arouse the curiosity of the audience even further!
While the music of the original was composed by Bappi Lahiri and most of the songs were chartbusters, in the case of the remake, music directors Sajid-Wajid, the masters of masala filmy music (DABANGG 1&2, HOUSEFULL 2 and ROWDY RATHORE) have been assigned the task and Sachin-Jigar are the guest composers. Two very popular songs, the rights of which rests with renowned music label Saregama, also feature from the original soundtrack. So let's get going straight into the 'masala' retro mode and check out the music which promises to be as exciting and popular as the original.
The first on the list is the chartbusting 'Taki Taki' from the original, and this highly addictive dance number is given a new look and feel and has been adequately refurbished without diluting the old world charm of the original by Sajid-Wajid. The Master of chartbusters, Mika Singh, has been chosen to do the honours in his irresistible, most loved style, and giving him company is the neo nightingale Shreya, and the duo are simply superb. The lyrics (by Indeevar) too remain the same and the effect too is the same! Yes, simply chartbusting... again!

Though we have had numerous situational numbers that strengthen national integration but trust Sajid and Sajid-Wajid to come up with a superb item number, 'Dhoka Dhoka, which does exactly that, and that too in a very entertaining manner. The queen of item numbers, Sunidhi Chauhan and the flavor of the moment Mamta Sharma, along with Bappi Lahiri (the new item crooner after 'Ooh La La'), feature in this all out 'masala' dance track, and the end result is fantastic, chartbusting! Sameer Anjaan's lyrics are the USP of the track and the use of all the major languages like Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Marathi etc. in the beginning of each stanza is unique and has been intelligently put in!
Next we have another chart topper from the original soundtrack 'Naino Mein Sapna', and none better than Kishore Da's son, Amit Kumar, to do the honours along with Shreya Ghoshal, and they are as close to original as can be, and that says a lot about the quality of their performance. Sajid-Wajid once again do a good job in refurbishing the song. The song promo (released a few days back) show that director Sajid and ace choreographer Farah Khan have handled the dance number very intelligently.
A cute, sweet , inspirational and situational number , 'Bum Pe Laat', rendered by Shaan, Shubh Mukerji and Soham Mukerji is up next, and it has its inspiration from Helen's evergreen dance classic, 'Mere Naam Chin Chin Choo' (HOWRAH BRIDGE), if we talk about its light music arrangements and nice frothy rhythm. It also introduces the bad guys of the film in a very interesting manner, through the eyes of the lead protagonist. The song which talks about taking on the opponents and bullies and not fearing anyone, will surely appeal to the kids.

The glorious days of Mithun Da's disco dancer is back with 'Thank God It's Friday', and Sachin-Jigar successfully rekindle the eighties disco magic with this Sundhi Chauhan sung composition. It's a groovy dance track with some identifiable and interesting lyrics by Mayur Puri. The song will definitely prove to be very popular, especially because it has been picturised on Sonakshi Sinha, who is said to be donning the disco avatars of two top names of yesteryears, Sridevi and late Parveen Bobby while some are comparing her to Reena Roy (''Disco Station''- HATHKADI). The song is being heavily promoted and it has been heard that Sajid and Sonakshi will be performing live at the unveiling of the song in one of Mumbai's famous discotheques, where Sajid will don the role of a Dj.
Summing up, the audio of Sajid's HIMMATWALA is as 'paisa vasool' as his films; very entertaining and definitely most of the songs are sure shot chartbusters. The two original tracks, and 'Dhoka Dhoka' and 'Thank God It's Friday' are our picks. The massive promotions and popularity of the songs will definitely go a long way in ensuring that the film opens to jam packed houses all over, when it releases worldwide on 29th March.
