After a spate of hit films with equally popular music (leaving aside ACTION REPLAYY), the filmmaker-actor duo, Vipul Shah and Akshay Kumar team up again. And this time it's for the Murugadoss (of GHAJINI fame) directed HOLIDAY- A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY. It's the ever reliable composer Pritam who has been assigned with the task of providing music for this romantic action flick, along with his tested lieutenant, lyricist Irshad Kamil. The combo has provided memorable chartbusting music on various occasions and one is sure that they will surely come up with the same here as well.
As always it's a chartbusting start that Pritam provides with the light frothy romantic number, 'Tu Hi Toh Hai'
. The tune may be a heard before one but that hardly matters as one gets easily addicted to this catchy number, especially the chorus. Benny Dayal does justice though his voice does not suit Akshay and at times his diction is flawed.
The second version of 'Tu Hi Toh Hai
' is rendered by Kunal Ganjawala and is almost like a remixed version with lots of added rhythm and beats and makes for a good repeat and is more club and disco friendly. CHECK OUT: Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty - Songs Lyrics
The catchy number gives way to the soft, serene love ballad, 'Shaayraana'
, which has strong inspiration from Pritam's very own chartbusting, 'Pee Loon
' (ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI). However it is ear pleasing and sounds good as long as it lasts. Arjit sings well, but the highlight is the unique lyrics that lend the song that novel touch.
A highly rhythmic, groovy club dance/ trance number 'Blame The Night
' has the Pritam stamp all over, be it the sizzling background musical arrangements, the auto tuned vocals of lead singers (Arijit, Aditi Singh and Piyush Kapoor) to give the song that required zing and club feel.
Though the start of 'Palang Tod
' is almost similar to Pritam's chartbusting, 'Twist
' (LOVE AAJ KAL) the song acquires a new hue soon enough and is converted into a very cute 'chhed-chaad'
number. Mika Singh and Ritu Pathak combine well to deliver a number which should please the mass plus class.
There is another version, 'Palang Tod Naina
' which is well done with Kaushik, putting in lots of musical innovations to make the song a different experience. CHECK OUT: Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty Movie Dialogues
The flavor of the season Arijit Singh's soulful rendition is the highlight of the sad and nostalgic situational number, 'Ashq Na Ho
', which is a tribute to all our great soldiers. Irshad Kamil's superbly crafted lyrics tug at the heart. The tune is simple, the musical arrangements kept to minimum and Arjit's eclectic rendition keeps the listeners hooked.
Summing up, Pritam and Irshad Kamil deliver as per expectations, and the end result is a good timepass. Although a stereotyped Bollywood album, it will definitely find favour with music buffs. Our picks - 'Tu Hi Toh Hai
', 'Ashq Na Ho
' and 'Shaayarana
'. The hit music will ensure a good opening for HOLIDAY when the film releases all over on June 6th 2014.
