There are quite high expectations from Dharma Production's upcoming HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA, and the first and foremost reason being, yes, obviously, it being a product of the premier production house, Dharma, whose association with melodious and memorable music is well known. The music is helmed by very promising as well as experienced Sachin-Jigar and Sharib-Toshi. So let's get on and check out whether this HUMPTY SHARMA's dulhania
offers (even) half as memorable music as Yash Raj Films' evergreen DILWALE DULHANIA.
The album kicks off with 'Kudi Saturday Saturday
', a rehashed and rearranged ( Sharib-Toshi) version of the Punjabi super hit dance number of the same title by Indeep Bakshi and Badshah, the original composers! The makers do a good job of tailoring it so that it sounds fresher and quirkier and so no doubts about why this number is the party anthem of the youth & Gen X.
As if one song was not enough, the makers use another super hit soulful number, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's 'Samjhawan
', once again rearranged by Sharib-Toshi. Super singer, Arijit Singh has been chosen to do a Rahat but he simply fails to create the same magic. Even 'surili
' Shreya's presence does not lift the song to that level. CHECK OUT - Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania : Songs Lyrics
The makers have added another unplugged version of 'Samjhawan
' and it has been rendered well by Alia who has previously done a good job as a singer for Rahman's HIGHWAY.
A fun, festive celebration / wedding folk based number, 'Daingad Daingad
', where all the members of the family relate their love stories and how they got married in a humorous manner. The song is sung by a host of artists like Udit Narayan, Divya Kumar, Akriti Kakkar, Pratibha Baghel, Deepali Sathe and Niharika Sinha and is fun as long as it lasts.
Lots of techno gimmicks and DJ beats & scratches and racy rhythm make up, 'Lucky Tu Lucky Me
', a club song in the same corridor as Varun Dhawan's chartbusting 'Besharmi Ki Height'
. Benny Dayal and Anushka Manchanda sail through the song effortlessly.
Sharib-Toshi's 'Emotional Fool
' passes of as an average dance number that is a fusion of Hindustani and western but it stands out due to its interesting and funny lyrics. CHECK OUT - Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania Movie Dialogues
The album ends on a fun and celebratory note, la Dharma production, 'Shava Shava
' style, with 'D Se Dance
'. The Sachin-Jigar Punjabi 'bhangra
' folk inspired number is rendered with zest by Vishal Dadlani, Shalmali Kholgode and Anushka Manchanda.
Summing up, the high expectations that one had from this Dharma Production venture starring two hot newcomers, Varun-Alia is not well and truly met. The album might have hit the charts, specially 'Kudi Saturday Saturday
', but apart from this number and 'Samjhawan
', it fails to deliver anything memorable. However the rehashing gimmick has worked and the film should witness a good initial when it releases all over on 11th July, 2014.Music Review Rating Chart :-
