The young and talented, Manish Tiwary, impressed all with his very first film, DIL DOSTI ETC. His latest venture, ISSAQ, once again stars youngsters and some fresh talents as well as experienced ones and is a love story, reportedly an adaptation of Shakespeare's classic love drama, ROMEO AND JULIET, based around the holy city of Banaras. Indeed, a coincidence! Another film after RAANJHANAA which is Banaras based! Highly talented composers Sachin-Jigar are flying high after the stupendous success of GO GOA GONE and RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA (audio) and we expect them to come up with some out of the box (as always!) scores. Guest composer Krsna too comes up with a number, so let's check out whether the album has enough ammunition to provide Prateik with his first solo success.

Lovely orchestration, haunting tune, superb romantic lyrics and Mohit Chauhan's mesmerizing vocals, all work together to make up the excellent love ditty, 'Issaq Tera', a number that is slowly and surely going to make a place in the hearts of all die hard romantics. Sure fire hit.

The 'Issaq Tera' duet is more heavy in arrangements, and fresh talent Smita Jain's hushed husky vocals accompany Mohit in this brief but lovely outing.

CHECK OUT: ISSAQ on the same lines as ISHAQZAADE or RAANJHANAA?

Sad, separation or 'judaai' number, 'Jheeni Re Jheeni', is a good piece of work which has many shades which blend seamlessly into the Northern Indian flavor of ISSAQ with semi-classical and folk fused together. Rashid Khan's deep throated high pitched vocals are just class apart Lyrics are 'khadi boli' which (in parts) might be a bit difficult for all to comprehend but they do fit the situational demand.

'Jheeni Re Jheeni'
duet sees the entry of Pratibha Baghel whose soft vocals complement Rashid.

'Bhole Chale' is a devotional number full of energy and vigour and enacts the joyous occasion of the wedding of Lord Shiva with Parvati. The situational track mentions all the mythological figures like Nandi etc. who were present in the wedding procession (Mahashivaratri). Rahul Ram and Sachinn Gupta render this very special number that would be loved by 'Shiv Bhakts'.

'Yeh ishq nahin asaan, Bas itna samajh lijiye, Ek aag ka dariya hai, Aur doob ke jaana hai'
. Ghalib's all-time favourite couplet has been used quite effectively in the next number, 'Aag Ka Dariya' to convey the strong emotions and the tumultuous and hard times that lovers face. Hard rock is the essence here and Ankit Tiwari young energetic and strong vocals do the needful and also provides the album with the much needed variety.

'Aag Ka Dariya'
(Unplugged) version banks on purely vocals (by Sachinn Gupta) with minimal background music consisting of guitar, flute and soft percussions.

CHECK OUT: Meet the baddie from ISSAQ

Guest composer Krsna's 'Enne Unne' (meaning here and there!) is the 'holi' number with lots of naughtiness and 'chhed chaad' featuring all the lead actors, and it is another folk based number with lots of rustic flavor and Hindustani instruments. Lyrics (Raj Shekhar) are cute and naughty at times, suiting the occasion of 'Holi' (in the North) perfectly. Mamta Sharma is superb in her sexy 'avatar', well aided by the likes of Tarun Sagar, Papon and Kirti Sagathia.

'Bhagan Ke Rekhan Ki'
(lines of fate) is song sung during the 'bidaai' ceremony in the North (especially Bihar and UP). The centuries old folk tune that the composers have used makes this number very authentic and Malini Awasthi's vocals are apt, though one misses Rekha Bhardwaj here. Raghubir Yadav comes in briefly to lend the number his magical touch.

Concluding, one must admit feeling a tad bit disappointed with the musical score of ISSAQ. Even though the songs are classy yet there is too much regional flavor (even lyrically) which might prove detrimental as the album will lack universal appeal. Moreover Gen X may also find it difficult to identify. However all said and done, 'Issaq Tera' is our pick along with 'Jheeni Re Jheeni'.
