Director David Dhawan is an institution in himself where it comes to comedies and his numerous super hit films (specially starring Govinda and Salman) undoubtedly made him the filmmaker No 1! The music of most of his films has been mass appealing and one can still hear remixes of countless of his chartbusters doing the rounds in pubs, discos and parties. For his next, starring his own son, Varun Dhawan (of STUDENT OF THE YEAR fame), MAIN TERA HERO, David has employed the services of his ever trustworthy composers, Sajid-Wajid who have provided massy, chartbusting music for the director in his previous films like MUKHSE SHAADI KAROGI, PARTNER and CHASHME BADDOOR. So let's see whether the duo get it right this time as well!
Sajid-Wajid get it right straight away with 'Besharmi Ki Height
', a vibrant foot-tapping dance number that is universally appealing. The electric guitars, lovely techno rhythm, DJ scratches and auto tuning (in parts) of vocals of lead singers, Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgode all add to the party mood.
Quite a lot of work has been put by DJ Notorious to make 'Besharmi Ki Height
' remix more club friendly and at times it sounds even better than the original. CHECK OUT: Main Tera Hero Movie Dialogues
Amitabh Bachchan's super hit number from KAALIA, 'Jahan Teri Ye Nazar Hai
' seems to be the inspiration behind the David-Govinda style prepositioning number, 'Palat - Tera Hero Idhar Hai
' in the 'mukhda
' (though the 'antara
' is unique and good) and the synthesized signature tune is inspired from 'Disco Station
'. Arijit Singh shows that he is adept at singing all types of songs and his emotive and zesty rendition is the highlight of the track.

From here, Seenu has to fight his way back to ensure that he gets back the love of his life. For that he has to hurdle over an over-enthusiastic Ayesha and her dad and gun-wielding staff.
David Dhawan teams up with his son for a mad-cap ride. Varun on his part does not disappoint. What is even more interesting is that in a role designed in a manner like Seenu's, it was easy for any actor to go 'over-the-top'. Not Varun. You see glimpses of Govinda as he dances with gay abandon and fights fluently and even mouths a few dialogues with a rising crescendo that reminds one of Chi Chi in his hey days.
The songs are foot-tapping and the powerful choreography adds to the entire fun-filled mood. There are a few scenes where you involuntarily break into a laugh.
The girls though are a disappointment. Ileana is surprisingly below the mark. Considering her super act in BARFI, she drops gears here. But the biggest disappointment is Nargis who comes up with a Sunny (Leone) like performance and that is sad, because in ROCKSTAR she emoted with her soul.
The end may not be entirely crisp and sane but is nevertheless balmy. CHECK OUT: Evelyn Sharma Interview
Watch MAIN TERA HERO for genuine laughs and also for the emergence of new stars, in this case Varun Dhawan. Watch it also for Rajpal Yadav who is endearing in his act as the side-kick to Angad and Saurabh Shukla who moves from his 'set dye'.
When Govinda burst onto the scene, he was labelled as the 'Poor Man's Mithun'.
Varun can safely be called the 'Rich Man's Govinda'.
The four stars are for its entertainment value and some brilliant performances.
