Not much expectations arise from a relatively inexperienced composer (as far as the Hindi film industry is concerned) Amartya Rahut in this comic thriller featuring names like Arshad Warsi, Soha Ali Khan and Jaaved Jaffery. However he is a talented musician and has composed many ad jingles and has been part of a rock band that also featured names like Amit Trivedi. So let us check out what the talented composer has for us.
'' is well sung by Shefali Alavares with support from Amartya and Pinky Maidsani. Shefali modulates her vocals well in this situational club dance track and sounds like a dumb belle hopelessly in love with a Casanova. The comic situational song picturized on the hot Soha and helpless Arshad makes for a funny outing.
Rocking electronic guitar strumming kick off ''Mindblastic
'', a song that introduces the lead protagonist Arshad Warsi. The narcissist mindset is well expressed through some apt words, although the tune that Amartya chooses is oft heard and so are the techno arrangements.
Some novelty does appear in ''Ringa Ringa
'', a cute nursery rhyme like love song, although once again the tune is very heard before. Subhajit Mukerjee renders the song. Virag Mishra does deserve a pat for some unique lyrics based on the famous nursery rhyme Ringa Ringa Roses.
The situational ''Ae Ji Suniye
'' is a humorous 'chhed-chaad
' track as the female lead protagonist implores for attention while the male lead is wary of his over bearing mother catching them together. The number is sung nicely by Hamsika Aiyer who puts on that nasal accent to convey the sexual overtones and the composer Amartya comes in with the very funny repeated rebuff.
After a superb singing stint in JACKPOT, Jaaved Jaffery comes in again with another hilarious track titled ''Carlos''. The song introduces his villainous character Carlos in a manner that has become almost trademark Jaaved. Nonsensical yet funny lyrics by Jaaved himself add to the fun.
The uni-directional (as far as the mood is concerned) album of MR JOE B. CARVALHO is a slight letdown as one expected that the talented Amartya Rahut would grab the opportunity and show his prowess in a film that boasts of actors like Arshad Warsi, Soha Ali Khan, Jaaved Jaffery etc. But maybe after the release of the film the situational songs might attain some popularity, and even that appears difficult as the film, which is all set to release on 3rd January, does not carry much hype, with DHOOM 3 likely to be reasonably strong even at that point of time.
