There is not much expectation(s) from Reel Life Entertainment's O TERI produced by Atul and Alvira Agnihotri (brother-in-law and sister of Salman Khan). The music has been composed by GJ Singh, who is a new entrant in Hindi cinema but is a known name in the Punjabi music scene, and additionally there are two more composers, famous Punjabi rapper Hard Kaur and Rajiv Bhalla. So let's check out what they have to offer us in terms of musical entertainment.
Starting off with the flagship song, 'Butt Patlo
', the dance number is a peppy Punjabi pop type composition, and it does boast of some upbeat rhythm and good arrangements. But it is let down by some very ordinary lyrics (once again a fascination with the derriere after 'Tooh
') which try to be youth identifiable but somehow do not click. Jaspreet Jasz and Roshni Baptist put up a good show.
The foot-tapping romantic dance track, 'Ankhan Vich
' showcases the composer's (GJ Singh) vocal prowess with good support from Jaspreet Jasz and Neeti Mohun. Relying more on synth and techno gimmicks like auto tuning, the song is as contemporary and youth pleasing as it comes. CHECK OUT: O Teri - Songs Lyrics
' is another dance number but it has absolutely nothing new to offer, neither in terms of tune (Inspired by the title track of BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN) or either the arrangements, or even the lyrics (except for the title of the track!). Mika is in his elements but he does not get scope to try anything novel. He is supported by Jaspreet Jasz and Lulia Vantur.
The remix of 'Umbakkum
' is better than the original and the heightened rhythm does lift the song.
The best of the lot is the Haryanvi Pop and hip hop with rap (by Hard Kaur), 'Phollo Karta
', an excellent situational number that etches out perfectly the lives of the neo-rich youth in Haryana (read Gurgaon!). Sung in a typical Harynavi dialect (which has become extremely popular universally) by Manish J. Tipu who is absolutely superb as he renders the song with lots of emotions and zest. Not only his singing but his lyrics too are the highlight of this track and would indeed be fun to watch the song on screen.
The title track, 'O Teri
', is a nice light hearted fun frolic hip hop number which is the theme song as it introduces the lead protagonists and provides a peek into their lives in an interesting manner. The Rajiv Bhalla composed number is rendered by the composer himself with Pooja Bhalla and Neuman Pinto joining in the party. The lyrics are cute and in sync with the storyline and script.CHECK OUT: Pulkit Samrat to have O TERI special screening for FUKREY team
The audio of O TERI is quite ordinary and new composer GJ Singh disappoints in his first outing. One expected the talented GJ to grab the opportunity bestowed upon him by Salman Khan himself, but having said that the songs may suit the mood and story of film. Just one number, 'Phollo Karta
' is excellent (though appeal will be sectional/regional) and it is our pick as well. The average music will make things a bit difficult when O TERI releases all over on 28th March, 2014 alongside two strong opponents, DISHKIYAOON and YOUNGISTAAN.
