SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE brings back the hit partnership of Yash Raj Films and director Maneesh Sharma, who have regaled audience with pure entertainment and some superb music through BAND BAJA BARAAT and to an extent even LADIES V/S RICKY BEHL. Instead of going in for their favourite composer duo, Salim-Sulaiman, promising and highly talented young guns Sachin-jigar have been entrusted with the task of composing for the film based on live-in-relationship of a young couple. Sachin-Jigar are indeed flying high this year with chartbusting music in successful films like GO GOA GONE and RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA, and one expects some high quality music from the duo, especially for the premier Yash Raj banner.
The two Chauhans, Mohit and Sunidhi, are simply outstanding in 'Tere Mere Beech Mein'
, a number that one warms up to instantly due to the easy to hum, infectious tune, the superb chorus and simply irresistible music arrangements that comprises of instruments like guitar, accordion, sax and street sounds like horn, whistles.
Jigar Saraiya and Priya (Panchal) Saraiya team up for 'Gulabi'
, a sort of a tribute to the pink city, Jaipur, where the film is based. It is a lovely composition that has a dew fresh tune composed around Rajasthani folk and embellished with Hindustani musical instruments like harmonium, table and 'sarangi'
Rock and raga'
fusion along with folk form the backbone of 'Chanchal Man Ati Random'
, a unique and certainly 'hatke' number that etches out the travails of the restless flirty heart in an entertaining manner. The highlight of the track are the superb humorous lyrics and folk lingo (Hindi and English) and Divya Kumar's emotive rendition. The title track 'Shuddh Desi Romance'
is a bit of a downer as it has strong resemblance to Govinda-Karisma ''Jeth Ki Dopahri Mein'' in parts which itself was inspired from a popular Bhojpuri folk tune. The 'antara'
is different with retro and pop fusion and is quite catchy. Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgode do the needful with zest and vigour.
There are five instrumentals in the album, 'Mujhe Kiss Kar Sakte Ho'
, 'Love In Jaipur'
, 'Tez Wala Attraction
, 'Boyfriend Banoge
' and 'Bhanwara Ma Bhatke'
It appears that instrumentals has become the need of the hour or one can say a recent trend as even an album like MADRAS CAFE too had as many as five instrumentals. Let's check the instrumentals here one by one.
Lovely accordion, thrilling Spanish guitar, cello and piano base make up the over two minute long instrumental, 'Mujhe Kiss Kar Sakte Ho'.
'Love In Jaipur'
is a superb fusion of Rajasthani folk inspired from 'Pallo Latke'
(NAUKAR) and jazz and Priya Panchal's earthy, nasal vocals are used in repeated Rajasthani chorus. 'Tez Wala Attraction'
is based on 'Chanchal Man Ati Random'
folk tune though the added pace is a slight dampener. CHECK OUT: Parineeti Chopra's real habit now on reel'Boyfriend Banoge'
too is an instrumental based on yet another song, 'Gulabi'
, although the start in bursts and pieces adds to confusion . 'Bhanwara Ma Bhatke'
is not quite an instrumental but more of a short remix with lots of added pace and rhythm and Divya Kumar's broken, repetitive folksy vocals.
Sachin-Jigar have indeed lived up to expectations and have delivered as per the demand of the makers with fresh tunes, classy musical arrangements that is the hallmark of their hold over music. The songs are already in the charts and will go a long way in ensuring that the film opens reasonably when it releases world- wide on 6th September.
