SINGHAM RETURNS, the sequel to the highly successful SINGHAM, marks the return of super hit team of actor-director duo, Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty. The Ajay Devgn Films and Rohit Shetty Productions venture boasts of music by a host of much-in-demand and in vogue composers like Jeet Gangulli, Meet Bros Anjjan, Yo Yo Honey Singh and Ankit Tiwari etc. So one does expect them to come up with a chartbusting album which should not be a problem keeping their excellent track record in mind.
Lovely piano notes herald a heartfelt prepositioning number, 'Sun Le Zara'
(lyrics Sandeep Nath) that is rendered in Arijit Singh's soulful vocals. The tune that Jeet chooses may be a heard before one, but the rockish crescendo where Arjit goes, 'Sun Le Zara'
, is the high point of the number that is just about average.
The title track of SINGHAM was highly popular due to its racy 'desi '
tandav type rhythm and the next number, 'Singham Returns Theme'
(lyrics Shabbir Ahmed) is a take- off on that and it starts much in the same way. But when Meet Bros Anjjan and Mika take over the song changes complexion slightly and takes a new route, more in sync with the current times. However it fails to create the same impact that the original Ajay-Atul's SINGHAM title track created.CHECK OUT: SINGHAM RETURNS songs lyrics
The 'Singham Returns Remix'
(MBA Swag) by Meet Bros Anjjan , featuring Mika Singh, is well done and makes for a good hear.
The love angle between Kareena Kapoor and Ajay Devgn provides some comic relief with Bebo surprising with her act, far removed from her signature roles. Watch out for her precision in the scene when she goes after a snooping television journalist.
The very end, when the police force unites against the tyranny of politicians, will certainly go down well with our over-burdened cops, and the aam junta
. If we have police-officers like these, crime rate will drop to zero and 'corrupt politicians' will be a rare phrase. But that of course is in the reel world.
Ajay Devgn is in top form, balancing venom, romance and concern with equal aplomb. Rohit Shetty relaxes on the 'cars meeting mid-air front' a bit. The screenplay needs a special mention with care being taken for detail in every scene. Its picture perfect, especially the village scenes.CHECK OUT: Will SINGHAM RETURNS be Ajay Devgn's highest grosser?
The first half is slick... pure entertainment, the second half, towards the fag end, loses a wee-bit of its kick.
Nevertheless, for a citizen dreaming of a nation free of corruption, honest police officers and the end of politicians who suck blood, a visit to the multiplex will give you that feel... So what if it is only for 142 minutes!!!
