The 'all Deol' YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA 2
, a sequel to the hit zany comedy, YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA
(2011), is indeed a much anticipated flick. The music of YPD which, composed by a host of music directors, did have some nice songs including Anu Malik's raunchy item number, 'Tinku Jiya'
but the rehashed version of the title track was the pick of the lot. This time the audio has been handled by the young and relatively fresh composers, Sharib-Toshi, known more for their association with the Bhatts, and YPD2 is their second major break after RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES
. So let's check out if the duo are able to live up to the expectations!
The title track, 'Yamla Pagla Deewana'
, is a high octane, racy track with full on Punjabi pop 'Bhangra'
number, and even though the 'mukhda'
is inspired by Pritam's 'Jhak Maar Ke'
but that becomes immaterial as on the whole the song is catchy and will surely prove to be a chart topper. Lyrics are apt and humorous. Rahul Seth comes in for rap parts while Sukhwinder and Shankar Mahadevan are just class acts and Sanchita Bhattacharya joins the chorus for the fun filled number. 'Saadi Daru Da Pani'
YPD version (remixed), sung by Toshi, and although he does well one still prefers the original because of Sukhi and Shankar. CHECK OUT: YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA 2 - Dharmendra, Sunny & Bobby let their hair down for 'We Will Dance Like This Only' song
Mika Singh and Shreya Ghoshal come together for another fun filled 'masala'
outing, 'Changli Hai Changli'
with a slight Marathi touch (just the tune), although Punjabi flavor dominates as usual. The USP of the number are the Hinglish lyrics. A song that would make even Govinda proud!
It's all traditional Punjabi folk that commences 'Suit Tera Lal Rang Da'
and it is a delight to hear Sonu and Sunidhi belt out a highly entertaining propositioning track in their own indomitable manner. The next number, 'Main Taan Aidaan Hi Nachna'
(''I will dance like this only'' ) redefines all the three Deols, especially Dharmendra and Sunny, both known as 'bad' dancers with two left feet and glorifies their style of dance. Doing justice to that are the lyrics and of course the singers, Diljit Dosanjh and Sachin Gupta. Dharmendra
, Sunny Deol
, Bobby Deol
and Karan Deol (Sunny's son) come in briefly in the chorus to lend the number that required extra kick.
'Jat Yamla Pagla Ho Gaya'
is the off shoot of the title track though with a somewhat different tune and electronic beats, and is a 'celebration of love' number. Its Mika's all out show and his enthused singing perks up matters more. Suzanne D'Mello comes in with her lovable English back - up vocals.
Sharib's 'Jat Yamla Pagla Ho Gaya'
is the remixed version and has been handled well and makes for a good repeat hear. CHECK OUT: YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA 2 - Dharmendra turns Punjabi rapper!
The album concludes with the YPD2 mash up, which is a good round up of all the songs and has been mixed well with electronic sounds, beats and rhythm.
To sum up, Sharib-Toshi do justice to the album, which is full on Punjabi flavor, and that was required as the songs are movie centric. On the hind sight one may complain of an overdose of Punjabi and so the songs may not find universal acceptance (outside North and Punjab). However, three songs- the title track, 'Changli Hai Changli Hai'
and 'Suit Tera Lal Rang Da'
are the pick of the lot, and should propel the album to a hit status and help the film open to a good house when it releases, early next month.
