Talluride Theatre Company's "Nosferatu, the Vampyre" from the United States of America.
a gestural drama based on the mythic character of Dracula, performed in English - 90 minutes, no interval.
Nosferatu - the un-dead - representing the hidden shadow of the human soul... that
which we call Evil, quartered between Darkness and Light. A luminous conscious rises
on his path: Mina, an image of redemption and a symbol of spiritual renewal... a tragedy
unfolds in which the characters are vested with mythical dimensions. With romantic tones
and an expressionistic style, the drama is revealed through gestures. And then the chorus
comes forward as Nosferatu's inner soul. Representing Destiny.
The Telluride Theatre Company (THE REP) was conceived ten years ago, wanting to
create a space for innovative theatre to mirror cultural landscapes and investigate change.
Their long-term goal is to present original work in physical theatre for a global audience.

Chapal Bhaduri's "Ekmukhi Sitala" from West Bengal
a solo performance in Bengali - 70 minutes, no interval
Worshipped by entire village populaces in rural areas, Ma Sitala is the goddess of
"basanta rog" or spring disease and that of 64 other varieties of pox. Wherever
medicinal facilities are poor, or the money to pay for them lacking, her worship intensifies.
Deified as a pre-aryan goddess, the brahminisation of her legend was achieved by the
mid-18th century. Ever since she has been worshipped during spring as a naked deity
riding an ass, a broom in one hand, a ghot (pitcher) in the other and a kulo
(winnowing tray) on her head. The Sitalamangalpala is the story of her life and an
extension of her puja in praise of her greatness and in fear of the dreaded disease(s).
Chapal Bhaduri made a name for himself playing women's roles in the traditional jatra of
Bengal. He is considered to be one of the finest female impersonators in jatra
performances ever, dominating the scene between the fifties and the seventies.
Compilation: by Shri Chapal Bhaduri
Adaptated from: Debsangeetpala, a legend on the ballad of the goddess Sitala, written in
Bengal in the mid 18th century by the poet Nityananda Das
Cast: Chapal Bhaduri, accompanied by musicians.
