Original play by David Williamson
Show business Indian-style is the subject of The Primetime Theatre Co.'s
new production, based on an Australian play (winner of a Best Play award
on Broadway) by David Williamson, the acclaimed writer of the prize winning
film "The Year of Living Dangerously".
The play is a dark comedy that examines the relationship between a screenwriter
of serious aspirations and the hustling, smooth-speaking, semiliterate dealmaker
who latches on to him and uses the prestige of the association to climb to power
in the film world. A biting story about the politics of showbiz, Siren City
takes a brilliantly funny and penetrative look at art, materialism, creativity,
and the insidious compromising of an individual's principles.
This examination of how the noble ambition for fame deteriorates into lust
for money, and how relationships of every kind subsist on deception, deserves
our delightedly undivided attention. The play portrays human rivalry with
maximum comic and dramatic effect because it is as humorous as it is witty!
