This Friday's solo Hindi release is going to be Imtiaz Ali's Ranbir-Nargis starrer, ROCKSTAR. Given the fact that film is keenly awaited and additionally boasts of the youth anthem 'Sadda Haq' by A.R. Rahman, stars the hottest young star of Bollywood Ranbir and last but not the least, it has been directed by Imtiaz Ali, the highly successful director of super hit films like JAB WE MET and LOVE AAJ KAL. And that is why ROCKSTAR is all set embark on a good if not great start, both in India and overseas.
The multiple releases of last Friday, LOOT, MILEY NAA MILEY HUM and TENSION DOOOOR, saw dull starts (5-20 percent) at the ticket window, and despite the crashing collections, RA.ONE remained the first choice. Comparatively speaking LOOT fared the best but as far as the weekend goes it netted a very ordinary 2 crore from India.
Checking out Shah Rukh Khan's Anubhav Sinha directed RA.ONE, after a humongous extended weekend (5-days) the collections started falling from Monday and alarmingly from Wednesday. During the extended opening week (9-days) RA.ONE (Hindi) has netted a huge 100 crores. Additionally the dubbed (Tamil and Telugu) versions have netted about 6 crores. While RA.ONE has performed below expectations during the weekdays, given the handsome pre-release recoveries from non-theatrical rights, the film is an above average fare for its global distributor, EROS International. RA.ONE has done great business in the overseas (though it has seen a huge fall in the second weekend) grossing ?1,229,614 from UK and $2,229,372 from the US till the second weekend (4-6 November). Having said that the fact is, RA.ONE is Bollywood's biggest overseas hit of 2011!
Meanwhile Hema Malini's Esha Deol starrer TELL ME O KKHUDA saw a very ordinary run as it collected 20 lakhs from Bombay, 8 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Surat, 1.25 lakhs from Pune (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 18.25 lakhs from Nasik, 9.20 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.30 lakhs from Noida, 1.15 lakhs from Kanpur, 1 lakh from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Raipur, 3 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived) and 1.20 lakhs from Hyderabad. During the opening extended week (8-days) TELL ME O KKHUDA has netted a poor 1.20 crore and has flopped.
Concluding with HR Musik's Swapna Wagmare Joshi directed Himesh Reshammiya starrer, DAMADAMM!, around the middle of last week a section of the media claimed that the film had managed to accumulate 4 crores during the extended week (8-days). However when the collections were disclosed it was quite an anti-climax! During the week DAMADAMM! collected 8.50 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 15 cinemas unreceived), 10.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.65 lakhs from Surat, 5.30 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Noida, 1 lakh from Jaipur and 1 lakh from Hyderabad. Netting around 90 lakhs during the opening week DAMADAMM! is a washout.
