Unlike the last couple of weeks, thankfully, this Friday will see only three releases! The list includes BAABARR, VAADA RAHA … I PROMISE and RUSLAAN.
The fourth release, AAMRAS is likely to be postponed to a later date. From the three, it is just the Samir Karnik directed Bobby Deol and Kangna Ranaut starrer, VAADA RAHA, that may have some selective appeal.
But no need to despair because from the next Friday (18th September), the big guns will start booming again in the form of Salman Khan's WANTED and the Shahid-Rani starrer, DIL BOLE HADIPPA.
The dull phase at the box-office continues with no film taking even a decent start. Last week's multiple releases, Shreyas Talpade's AAGEY SE RIGHT, the Sunny Deol, Arjun Rampal, Udita Goswami and Sagarika Ghatge starrer FOX, Rishi Kapoor's CHINTUJI, Arbaaz-Jimmy's BACHELOR PARTY and Ashish Chawdhry's THREE, have all failed to make a mark at the ticket window. From the list it is just the Dipak Tijori directed FOX and Vikram Bhatt's THREE that showed some decent collections, and that too at select cinemas, but on the whole trade predicts a bleak future for all the releases.
Moving on, Sunil Shetty's DADDY COOL meets with a cold response (though the best of the week!) at the ticket window. The film collected 70 lakhs from Bombay, 18 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 6.05 lakhs from Surat, 1 lakh from Nadiad, 2.50 lakhs from Anand, 6 lakhs from Baroda, 1 lakh from Bharuch, 1.05 lakh from Vapi, 4.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.35 lakhs each from Jamnagar and Bhavnagar, 11 lakhs from Pune, 1.30 lakhs from Solapur, 1.10 lakhs from Sangli, 2.60 lakhs from Nasik, 4.50 lakhs from Goa, 1.20 lakhs from Hubli, 1.60 lakhs from Belgaum, 42 lakhs from Delhi city, 7.25 lakhs from Noida, 4.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 5 lakhs from Kanpur, 8.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.35 lakhs from Agra, 1.50 lakhs from Meerut, 2 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 7.35 lakhs from Gurgaon, 4.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.15 lakhs from Zirakpur, 2 lakhs each from Chandigarh and Calcutta, 4.15 lakhs from Nagpur, 5.35 lakhs from Indore, 10.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 1 lakh from Ajmer, 2 lakhs from Hyderabad and 1.25 lakhs each from Aurangabad and Mangalore. During its opening week, DADDY COOL has netted a very ordinary 4.50 crores from India and has failed at the box-office.
Sohail Khan's KISAAN has been totally rejected. Even the tax free status in Maharashtra did not help. The film collected 32 lakhs from Bombay, 8 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh each from Surat and Vapi, 1.75 lakhs from Baroda, 1.55 lakhs from Pune, 2 lakhs from Goa, 16.15 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.55 lakhs from Agra, 1 lakh from Allahabad, 2 lakhs from Aligarh, 1.15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.50 lakhs from Zirakpur, 2 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.30 lakhs from Indore, 1.05 lakhs from Bhopal, 1.55 lakhs from Jodhpur and 1.05 lakhs from Aurangabad. Netting just around 2.50 crores in its first week, KISAAN is a flop show at the ticket window.
N Chandra's comeback venture, YEH MERA INDIA, is a debacle. The film collected less than 50 lakhs during its opening week from India.
Randeep Hooda's LOVE KHICHDI is an unmitigated disaster, netting just around 30 lakhs during its opening week.
The Ashmit Patel starrer, TOSS, goes for a toss and we would not like to embarrass the makers further by disclosing the numbers!
After DADDY COOL, the movie that fared the best is QUICK GUN MURUGAN, if we add the collections of the dubbed as well as the original English versions. The dubbed version collected 15 lakhs from Bombay, 3 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 20 lakhs from Delhi city, 4 lakhs from Noida, 1.55 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 7.50 lakhs from Gurgaon and 2.35 lakhs from Nagpur. QUICK GUN MURUGAN (English) fared much better than the dubbed version collecting 28 lakhs from Bombay,1.15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.65 lakhs from Pune, 1.15 lakhs from Pune, 1.10 lakhs from Lucknow and 1.15 lakhs from Mangalore.
QUICK GUN MURUGAN has netted a decent 2 crores in its opening week from India (adding the total of both the versions), and may just scrape through to safety.
Meanwhile Vishal Bhardwaj's Shahid, Priyanka and Amole starrer, KAMINEY, is holding on well at some centres, but is low at most others. The film is now an above average fare. KAMINEY has fared very well in the US, grossing $1,274,420 but is below par in the UK with ?263,882 .
Checking out Rumi Jaffery's Govinda, Fardeen, Tusshar, Genelia and Prachi starrer, LIFE PARTNER, the film is steady on the lower side at some centres but dull elsewhere. During the week LIFE PARTNER collected 40 lakhs from Bombay, 13 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 8 lakhs from Surat, 1.20 lakhs from Anand, 7.50 lakhs from Baroda, 4.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 1 lakh from Jamnagar, 7.50 lakhs from Pune, 2 lakhs each from Kolhapur and Nasik, 1.10 lakhs from Goa, 38 lakhs from Delhi city, 6 lakhs from Noida, 6.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 5.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.50 lakhs from Agra, 2.25 lakhs from Varanasi, 1.15 lakhs from Dehradun, 2.50 lakhs from Meerut, 1.50 lakhs from Moradabad, 2 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 9 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3 lakhs from Faridabad, 2 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1 lakh from Calcutta, 1.20 lakhs from Nagpur, 4.60 lakhs from Indore, 1.30 lakhs from Gwalior and 3.50 lakhs from Hyderabad.
